I posted the Athletic long form article about Oats and the program in a separate thread (because it's so long).

It's absolutely worth a read.

I'd have no issue with being in a region with Ohio St as the #1. Best case scenario imo if we aren't the #1.

Not just your opinion. This would definitely be the best case scenario for us.

A argument then could have been made that Bama is a different team now, then in the beginning of the season.

In all seriousness, does anyone actually believe this frickwad is an Alabama fan?

Combine that with a weak SEC

What? The SEC is arguably one of the top conferences in the country this season.

Ranked number 3 according to KenPom. ACC is right on our heels though.

With SEC Title in Reach, No. 6 Alabama Basketball Now Tasked with Cooling Off Red-Hot No. 20 Arkansas

The stage is set for the Crimson Tide to bring home a SEC regular-season title on Wednesday night versus the Razorbacks

Well, remaster916 does appear to be a UA fan. Unfortunately, he not only has Debbie Downer Syndrome, he isn't even smart enough to use the words than and then properly. I pity folks stuck being around him irl, like family and co-workers.

You don't think nonconference schedules matter? 5-4 and lost to every decent nonconference team. The OU game was a must win game in order for Bama to get a 1 seed. A argument then could have been made that Bama is a different team now, then in the beginning of the season.

Combine that with a weak SEC and Bama isn't getting a 1 seed. I see Bama as a 3 seed when the tournament comes around.

The only thing you got correct is the ooc record. Everything else is wrong, some hilariously wrong.

My favorite? "A Weak SEC."

It's rated as the #3 major conference this season. Just because Kentucky sucks, doesn't mean the SEC is weak.

edit: it was # 2, but we've dropped recently to 3. Still not weak.

I mean, he doesn't seem to know anything about basketball. So, yeah, it's possible. There's a reason I post on this thread (pretty much the only place on the rant I'll post anymore), rather than talk to family about basketball. Because none of them ever played or watched it regularly. So they're just overall ignorant about the sport.

Details on Nate Oats new $19 million contract, buyout structure

quote:

The new contract with Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats was announced last week and now we are learning more details.

The six-year deal is worth a total of $19.4 million when including base pay, talent fees and a $12,000-annual expense account, according to the memo of understanding acquired by AL.com through an open records request.

The annual compensation is now $3.237 million, up from the $2.462 million from the initial deal signed when Oats was hired from Buffalo in 2019. He agreed to a deal worth $837,000 a year there before Alabama hired him a few weeks later to replace Avery Johnson.

Alabama’s breakout 18-5 start figures to make Oats a hot name if a job opens at one of the college basketball blue bloods, so AD Greg Byrne took the preemptive step to sweeten the pot in Tuscaloosa.

Part of the deal with an extension and raise is an amended buy-out structure.

Under the new deal, pending the rubber stamp from the board of trustees, Oats would owe the school a significant buyout if he were to leave in the first few years of the deal. He’d be on the hook for $12.6 million if he took a new job in the first year of the deal, $9.8 million if he left after the second year. It drops from there with the buyout down to $0 for the final two seasons.

Year Buyout

2021-22 $12,577,500
2022-23 $9,836,250
2023-24 $6,966,000
2024-25 $2,418,750
2025-26 $0
2026-27 $0

The buyout in Oats original deal peaked at $8 million if he were to have left after his first season and dropped by $2 million a year after that.

If Oats is fired without cause by Alabama, he’d be owed 75% of the remaining base and talent feed owed by the contract.

A few of Oats’ incentives went up in this new deal as well. Bonuses for Final Four wins jump to $100,000 apiece from the $50,000 in the original contract.

I really don't have any expectation about tonight. My old brain just tells me that we'll lose every game so it's hard to get much "feel" about anything .

Honestly I think we have to have an ugly loss at some point at the end of the season and I’d rather it come to Arky than to anyone else. I think we could get blown out tonight. Arky is playing great at Home.

Alabama (18-5) vs Arkansas (17-5) Game Preview
Pete Fiutak | February 24, 2021

Date: Wednesday, February 24
Game Time: 9:00 ET
Venue: Bud Walton Arena, Fayetteville, AR
Network: ESPN2
Line: Arkansas -1, o/u: 155.5

Why Alabama Will Win

The offense keeps on working.

The defense isn’t always great, but the offense is able to bail the team out by scoring more. The threes aren’t always falling lately, but the O still finds ways to keep scoring. It’s one of the best teams in the nation from three, the scoring comes in bunches and is great at making life easier on the boards, and …

The defense actually is great.

It give up a few too many points, but it’s great from three, it’s phenomenal at taking care of the ball, and it’s great at clamping down when it absolutely has to.

Why Arkansas Will Win

Arkansas has the style and the attack to keep up.

It didn’t happen the first time around in a 90-59 loss in Tuscaloosa back in mid-January, but the Hogs lead the SEC in scoring margin because it rebounds everything, hits just about everything on the inside, and it moves the ball around incredibly well.

This is a different team than the one that got housed by the Tide over a month ago. It’s shooting a whole lot better than it did through a midseason mini-slump with the ability to go on a big run or two to keep the pressure on.

What’s Going To Happen

Be mad if this isn’t a wild and crazy shootout.

Alabama will do its part, and Arkansas will do the same at home even though the threes aren’t going to be dropping.

Alabama’s two worst scoring games since mid-December – the two times it’s been under 70 points – were in road losses to Missouri and Oklahoma over the last few weeks. The Hogs aren’t going to hold Bama down, but they’ll do enough to pull off a massive resumé win at home.

Alabama vs Arkansas Prediction

Arkansas 82, Alabama 79

Not sure if this was posted but I noticed WKU recently added a game @ Houston that will be played tomorrow. KenPom has their chance of winning at 11% but would be great for making that loss look better and jumping ahead of Houston in the NET

Yet it's ranked #2 in the nation in efficiency. There's some really uniformed people getting paid to write stuff.

The Barn has been a poor team without Cooper. He seems to make a 10 to 15 point difference.
