I feel like Passink said that both Kessens and Nick King were the best players at practice during their respective sit out years

Let's face it that is always the case. I remember last year hearing that Quinerly was the best player at practice and going back many years I can remember hearing Jamal Faulkner (transfer from Arizona St) was unstoppable by our guys in practice. He turned out to be a solid player but never was what I think we all hoped he was based on the talk.

People tend to forget that Alabama went on a ten game win streak! Am I correct on that? I'm happy Arky is winning because its only bringing more recognition to the SEC. The tournament fixing to be what we young folks call LIT!

That makes my heart happy.

Is this the first time folks have shown up like that? Anyway, good show of love and support for the program.

Defense was great all game.

I thought we played well offensively in the first half. State did their usual game of trying to get it slow and ugly but we moved the ball pretty well and shot reasonably well. We were one short run to open the second half from blowing them out.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Couldn't finish at the rim at all and had some questionable shot selection so a game that was teetering on having walk-ons get playin time turned into a cuss at the TV one.

So naturally we clinch a conference championship for the first time since I was in high school on the night my wife decided she wanted to take my father in law out to dinner for his birthday and I was forbidden from being on my phone to even keep up with the game, much less watch it. Oh well, guess I'll just catch the next one a year from now.

Depending on how badly you want to watch it, SECN has chosen to replay this legendary game in Alabama basketball history at midnight on Tuesday....

(This, according to what is showing on the ESPN app)

Alabama's first half offense was ok. Maybe a "C+". Second half offense was "D-" only reason I didn't give them an "F" is because Rojas hit the crucial 3 with a minute to go.
Now, the defense played well, virtually all game. Give them a solid "A-".

Alabama basketball: Tide clinches first SEC title since 2002

Alabama claimed the outright Southeastern Conference regular-season championship Saturday with a 64-59 win at Mississippi State.

Defense was the key as Alabama (19-6, 14-2) limited MSU (13-12, 7-9) to 40.7 percent shooting, outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-40 and never allowed MSU to take a lead even as its own offense struggled in the final 10 minutes.

1. Clutch 3-pointers of the year from a surprise shooter
Alabama has some excellent 3-point shooters, although several seem to be in a simultaneous slump. The 3-pointer that gave Alabama breathing room after a long, nervous stretch at 56-53 came from reserve James Rojas.

Although he had not made a 3-pointer since Jan. 12, his shot from the right corner upped the Alabama lead to six points and gave Alabama a more comfortable lead for the final minute.

2. Quinerly comes up big
Jahvon Quinerly gave the Alabama offense a big boost, coming off the bench to score 19 points, 15 in the first half, in a game where points were at a premium.

Quinerly had Alabama’s best plus/minus ratio (plus-12) in 27 minutes.

3. Tide takes a title
The Alabama victory was its 14th SEC win of the season, clinching the regular-season title.

The Crimson Tide can finish no worse than 14-4, while second-place Arkansas, which defeated LSU on Saturday, can finish no better than 13-4 as the SEC schedule does not allow the Razorbacks to play a second COVID-19 makeup game.

The SEC championship in basketball is Alabama's first since 2002.

Call me naive but I’ve got a weird feeling we are about to get our groove back offensively

I woke up this morning still tickled to death for Rojas hitting the 3 that clinched the SEC Championship for us with 0:45 to go in the game.

He has had a very tough year and taken a lot of heat for his play. And a lot of it warranted, frankly.

But he still plays his arse off when he is in the game and he deserved to make a play like that in a big moment.

It’s time for Quinerly to start again and quit coming off the bench, IMO.

He has been our best offensive player in February, and I don’t think it has been particularly close.

Obviously it was the right move for the team in January when Oats relegated him to the bench and we went on our ridiculous murder-ball run, blowing out Kentucky/LSU/Arkansas.

But all February with the exception of UGA, we have started slow out of the gate while JQ continued to come off the bench as our hottest player.

I think we need JQ’s offense from the opening gun from here on out.

Yeah, I agree. We're better when he's on the floor. He was getting a lot of minutes anyway, but I think you may be onto something about the slow starts.
