He said he was becoming “too comfortable” in Tuscaloosa. “I knew everyone around there,” he said. “It’s home. I wasn’t putting in as much work as I should. There were a lot of distractions. I loved my time at Alabama but – with this being my last year – I wanted to give basketball everything I’ve got. I’m in the gym all the time right now just striving to be the best I can be.”
Ingram said he did not reconsider his decision to transfer when Alabama changed coaches. The Crimson Tide hired former Buffalo coach Nate Oats to replace Avery Johnson. “My mind was already set on leaving,” he said. “I wasn’t putting the work in that I needed to put in and you could kind of tell in my game.”

He could have been a really good player for us, if he'd had good coaching.

I know Dazon has gotten a lot of criticism in these megathreads (some of it well deserved), but I'm really impressed with his statement. He took responsibility for his own actions.

That is both a lack of coaching and a lack of desire and effort.
Nothing good to say about it.
Nothing good to say about it.

Props for Dazon being man enough to admit he wasn't totally committed.
From what I've heard he was pretty damn good in high school, can't miss prospect but regressed each year at Bama.
In coaching accountability & dedication is so important. Players will take on the personality of their coach if they respect him.

Wait you are giving him props for saying he
didn’t give a shite for the school that was giving him this opportunity?

I don't know why people want to hate Dazon so much. He's always come across as a nice kid that never learned how to not say what he really believes.
If y'all only want players that will coach themselves and remain top competitors even though their coach doesn't know what he's doing, you're not going to have many players. We might have 10 on the football team and 1 on the basketball team. That's just not how kids, or even adults, work. They need leadership.

I hate Dazon because he sucked, came across as a bitch, and now openly said he didn’t give a shite

If you have to exaggerate your reasons maybe they're not good reasons.

Grant was offering high star kids and missing. I'm all for CNO offering top 25 kids, but why the frick are we celebrating for each one and getting hyped about it? You don't see the guys in the football recruiting thread getting excited every time a top player gets an offer from us. The thing that we should care about is if CNO can actually seal the deal or if we are just wasting time chasing kids who haven't had and won't have real interest in us.

We need this shite posted across the top of this damn board.

Don't think he said he didn't give a shite. He said he did not work as hard as he should have to reach his potential. A very common factor among young people.
A good coach can be a tremendous motivator here. Avery was just not used to doing that as all his coaching experience was with professionals. He was no help,to Dazon or anybody else in the same boat.
Very bold of Dazon to come out and say what we all suspected.

I think there’s a reason that Oats said maybe some of the players in the transfer portal needed to stay there.

You have to offer and gauge interest. The blue bloods can only take so many every year. I'd much rather Oats try, than to just roll over, bite the pillow and take it up the arse.
I hate the attitude that we aren't good enough to offer 5 stars. Why even be a fan if you don't dream of being at that level?

I think there's a reason too, but I don't necessarily believe that reason happens to be my exact predetermined ideas of what I think a player is like on a personal level.

Holy frick. I actually feel bad for Pitino now.
