He’s completely dominated AAU season for the Seattle Rotary and had a breakout year during high school season, Paolo Banchero is one of the top prospects in the 2021 class and has improved almost everytime he’s stepped on the floor.

His recruitment has also seen it boom as he landed offers from Kentucky, Memphis, Alabama, Washington, Tennessee, with heavy-interest from Duke.

This week, Banchero and The Rotary we’re making a run for Peach Jam but just fell short. Here’s what he told Stockrisers on his experience:

“Nobody does it better than Nike!”

In addition, he gave his thoughts on this experience improving his game:

“Definitely feel like it improved my game. The EYBL is by far the best circuit and has the best players. I was challenged every game and had to perform, definitely made me better,” Banchero said.

Going back to his recruitment, he’s landed offers from tons of high major schools and we will only see that continue, especially after his dominant performances at Peach Jam.

“Recruiting has been going well. Been hearing from a lot of schools. Giving every school equal amount of attention as of right now.”

One school that is giving him attention, but is yet to offer? The Duke Blue Devils.

Coach K and/or a staffer was present at nearly all of Banchero’s games.

“Coach Scheyer keeps in close contact. Coach K came and watched my last 2 games. Great staff and Great school.”

Banchero has no visits planned as of now but says he will sit down in August to take the time to plan them.

Something I asked Banchero is the possibility of him reclassifying to 2020 because some coaches think he’s ready. Here’s what he said :

“Don’t plan on reclassing. Wanna experience the all-american games, hoop summit, senior year, etc.”

Former Trinity High School standout Jay Scrubb drew a crowd on Sunday morning.

The 6-foot-6 Scrubb, considered the top junior-college player in the country, played in the JUCO All-American Showcase at Parkview High School before dozens of college coaches, including Louisville coach Chris Mack.

After his sensational freshman season at John A. Logan College, Scrubb has seen his recruitment take off and said this weekend after playing a couple of games that his phone was “blowing up.”

“It’s a dream come true for me,” Scrubb said. “I feel blessed because basketball is what I love to do and basketball is what I do every day. I’ve trained for this and I’m just having fun.”

Scrubb has become a priority target for Louisville in the Class of 2020. He made an unofficial visit in late May and was extended a scholarship offer by Mack and his staff.

At this point, Scrubb said he has 18 commutable offers and said Louisville “is my hometown team and still at the top of my list.” But he also mentioned Memphis, Arizona and Kentucky. UK has not offered at this point. Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams was another head coach in attendance on Sunday, while there were assistants from a bunch of schools showing him interest, including Alabama, West Virginia and Texas Tech.

“Right now, I like all of the schools,” Scrubb said. “There’s a lot of schools interested and a lot of schools calling. It’s an honor for me.”

His father, Jason, was in Georgia with him this weekend and the younger Scrubb said the family doesn’t have a timetable for making a decision about his future at this point.

“We are trying to weight all of our options and take it day-by-day,” he said. “I’ll take it step-by-step and make the right decision for me.”

Scrubb was named a NJCAA First Team All-American as a freshman and was the only JUCO player to earn an invite to the USA Basketball U19 trials in May.

His father talked last month to Evan Daniels of 247Sports about the possibility of going directly to the NBA Draft after a second year of JUCO. It’s something that hasn’t been done since Donta Smith was picked 34th by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2004 NBA Draft.

The younger Scrubb said, “it’s an option for sure.”

“I would say the NBA is another offer for us,” he said. “That’s how I am looking at it right now. I’m just going to weigh all of my options and in the end make the best decision for me.”

Scrubb is impressive physically, measuring in at 6-foot-6 with a 6-9 wingspan at the USA Basketball tryouts. He was also recently measured with a 40-inch max vertical, which would have ranked No. 7 overall at this past year’s NBA Draft Combine.

As a freshman at John Logan, Scrubbed averaged 19.5 points and 8.6 rebounds a game and shot 54.9-percent from the field, including 46.4-percent from three on 110 attempts.

Scrubb and incoming U of L freshman David Johnson were teammates for two years at Trinity. In his final season at Trinity, Scrubb averaged 17.8 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior at Trinity. He was named the Seventh Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches and Courier Journal.

Been watching it. I really hope we land Nimari Burnett.

They had a graphic earlier showing notable coaching changes going into next year and didn't include Oats. Dick faces.

SEC Offseason Reset: Can Florida beat out Kentucky for a league title?

Predicts Alabama will finish 8th.

quote:

8. ALABAMA: The perimeter-oriented Crimson Tide will have to find some inside help if they want to be among the league’s top teams. The backcourt trio of Kira Lewis, John Petty and James “Beetle” Bolden are all known commodities who can score and make plays. Junior wing Herb Jones also has intriguing capabilities. But help has to arrive in an unproven frontcourt that features young or unproductive returning players. If Alabama figures out a four-guard lineup and gets some contributions inside they will be dangerous.

I suspect we can do a little better than that. I’m predicting 6th just because I think the other upper half teams just lose a lot.

I tend to think LSU is being slightly over-valued, but that is an extremely reasonable projection for us (it’s a tough league) and a very accurate description.

We should be good on the perimeter. We have huge question marks at the 4 and 5.

Yeah, most experts making preseason predictions are reticent to drop teams too many spots when they are coming off a great season even if they are replacing a lot of key players.

In each of the past few seasons, teams finishing much higher or lower than preseason consensus has been the norm more often than the exception (AU, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, Ole Miss for example with seasons that doubled most preseason W predictions).

LSU, Tennessee and Auburn are all teams that probably have more question marks than Alabama even with a new coach/system. Any of these three could put it together and finish Top 5 but chances one or two of them have a tougher season and finish lower would be no surprise either.

By that same measure, there's also teams like Arkansas and Missouri that could easily surprise to the level Ole Miss did last season.

Alabama is probably the biggest wild card of the bunch -- which is exciting after the feeling we were the most predictably decent middle of the pack 9-9 SEC team seemingly forever.

I am putting a good bit of hope in James Rojas to solve some of our problems in the paint.

My main problem with it is UGA being above us. That’s putting an absurd amount of faith in the Edwards addition. Solid recruiting class outside of him, but they don’t have any other top 50 players to justify that kind of jump.

I didn't know if this has been posted or where to put this, but it is a pretty interesting read on the NCAA holding Head Coaches accountable for their programs.

It's still really anyone's guess what exactly the NCAA will end up doing.

The one big difference between Gottfried and Bruce Pearl that this article does not highlight is that NC St assist. coach paid to recruit a player whereas I thought all the Auburn scandal had to do with players that had already been recruited to steer them to specific agents?

Seems the NCAA would prioritize the cases where players are getting "strong arse offers" to sign with certain schools in the first place as that cuts much more to the heart of competitive fairness.

Yeah, I meant more that 8th is generally reasonable.

I agree that we should be ranked over Georgia, but we are in several other projections.

On the other hand, I've seen LSU relatively consistently top 3 or 4. Which seems a little high to me. They do have some good players, but I'm slightly surprised at how much Watford has played into some of the analysis/projections.

Yeah, surprised they have Ole Miss so low too considering who they return and going into Kermit Davis' second year. Tom Crean should improve UGA and brought in a nice recruiting class, but they're going to play a lot of freshman. I also trust Barnes to be able to put together another solid team, but they lost a lot of production and seniority.
