just being curious here.
ive never been in coleman for a bball game. the one time i was in there, i didnt notice anything particularly run down. this was 2 or 3 years ago.
are we in a situation of, build it and they will come? or, is it, show us your product and we will build it?
i mean, no doubt fans want a bigger better home. but, the administration is like, can oats actually produce a winner?

He knows he needs to hop on the Oats Wagon before it fills up.

Maybe this delay will entice Oatees to stay. This gives him a chance to be part of the design team and have things how he wants them. This is me trying to be a sunshine pumper!!! Don't get used to it, it doesn't feel right after being kicked in the balls for so long

If we could find a way to put the Students on the Floor I would be content until the renovation.

It’s not the size or that it’s run down. It’s that it is a terrible environment. We don’t want bigger, its too big. We just want a better environment. We want something that will give us a better home court advantage and not something that feels like you’re shouting into a black hole every time you cheer.

As much as I’d like to say we have an extra $100-200 million at our fingertips to address this, we don’t
The school with the biggest pockets doesn’t, but apparently other schools do. Also wasn’t the projected renovation 105 million? Looks like they’ve already cut the budget in half
Just give the students courtside seats at this point.
Edit: Not shitting on Byrne because what else is he supposed to say.

Look. I like Oats. And you like Oats. But football's always thriving. Hope for Basketball to be thriving too. But get a clue.
If this post seems queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivy, hear this...
I trust Oats and You trust Oats, but basketballs been diving. And gymnastics is diving to. Feeling blue.
If your feeling sad and really sort of mad ... a little bit humbled and hopeless, hear this..
Coleman's old and Coleman's wierd, and Coleman's sort of quiet, but Denny's quite marquee. Can't you see?
Sooo, trust in Oats and follow Oats, and see how high we're seeded. I trusted Avery to. Didn't you?

I was there a LOT in the days of the Plaid Palace. It was loud as hell.
The reason it isn’t intimidating has nothing to do with the arena - unless you just want to build an arena that can get loud when the team isn’ Good enough to draw and inspire a large and effective crowd.

What he said is not really true since the BDS reno is over $90 million. I'm sure it will get pushed over $100 million.

The Plaid Palace...those were the days! In Coleman, no less. The fans were passionate, Wimp was an animal on the sidelines and every bit Sabans equal when it comes to chewing referee arse. There was an energy in there and the team would feed off it. Granted, our basketball fans are just as bad as our football fans, not getting energized and rowdy unless the game is doozie but they CAN create an atmosphere. That has never been matched since.
Oats needs to be animated and into the game and soon, the fans will catch on and get excited again, provided the program is good. Then you young-uns will see what Bama basketball can be like.

If you truly believe that the arena has nothing to do with it being a terrible environment, I don’t know what to tell you. You shouldn’t have to be in the most dominant stretch of your program’s history to have a solid game environment. Auburn was recently a consistently terrible program and had a better game environment than we do. I mean why do you think the planned restructuring of Coleman involves reducing the capacity and major changes to the seating? It’s not because it’s a great game environment.

Yea, I was there in the early to mid 90s when we beat #1 Arkansas.
As electric as any football game I've attended (maybe sans UGA NC game).

This will sound stupid and like I'm just pumping up "the good old days", but on any given night, we could beat anyone. We had extremely solid teams back then. Wimp was one of the best at game planning. The Loyola game that we almost won, was proof of that. I believe we held them to a season low in points.

Dont know if its been mentioned but they said on the Roundtable that they may have to wait until the BJCC is done before they renovate Coleman.....and that The new football stadium is Birminghams #1 priority right now so it could be a couple years.
