I figure instead of talking about the entire depth chart at once we could try going through it by position group. I picked the secondary to start with because it's the group that I'm worried about. We lost all of our starters, other than Deionte Thompson who played more late because of Hootie's injury, but ultimately didn't start for a vast majority of the season. Here's my best guess at how it looks:

CB: Saivion Smith
CB: Trevon Diggs
FS: Deionte Thompson
SS: Xavier McKinney
Star: Shyheim Carter
Money: Daniel Wright

At Corner Saivion Smith comes in from JUCO and I think he makes the most sense to grab a starting job. There's talent on the roster, so I expect a lot of competition for both spots. I figure Diggs gets the other spot because he did start the FSU game before getting replaced, so maybe with another season/off-season under his belt he'll be ready.

At Safety Deionte Thompson is obvious. He's an athletic, rangy guy in the mold of HaHa Clinton-Dix and I think he'll be really good on the back end. I'm not really sure about the SS spot, I figure McKinney/Wright are the two guys who could occupy it so I went with McKinney. As for Wright...

I put him at Money as the 6th DB, and I felt like Shy Carter makes a lot of sense at Star. He's worked there, getting in during the title game, and I think he'll be good in that role.

Projected Starters Information:

Saivion Smith (JR) - 6'1" 175lbs - ****
Trevon Diggs (JR) - 6'2" 195lbs - ****
Deionte Thompson (RsJR) - 6'2" 194lbs - ****
Xavier McKinney (SO) - 6'1" 197lbs - ****
Shyheim Carter (JR) - 6'0" 195lbs - ****
Daniel Wright (SO) - 6'1" 185lbs - ****

Others To Watch Information:

Nigel Knott (RsSO) - 5'11" 183lbs - ****
Jared Mayden (JR) - 6'0" 197lbs - ****
Josh Jobe (FR) - 6'1" 180lbs - ****
Jalyn Armour-Davis (FR) - 6'1" 180lbs - ****

Let me know if I left out anyone who you think could contend for a starting role or if you think the starters are different than the way I project them. I hope to do these for each position group.

We really need Diggs to figure it out though. They really seem to trust carter though as he was out on the field at the end of the game.

I am in hopes that Nigel Knott can get it together. Kid is an unbelievable athlete.

Looks about right to me. Some of the young guys could make some noise though. Wonder if Jobe ends up at corner or safety? He just seems like a FS to me.

I just hope they learn fast and it's not exciting in the wrong way next season.

But, somehow, it always seems to work out that either the DB's or the D-line has a lot of talent returning. We never seem to be extremely young at both areas. Hopefully the guys up front will help smooth the way for the young guys in the back.

As to the topic, I have no idea who will play, other than Thompson. I know most of the names, but I admit, I don't know much about any of the young DB's.

Our Pass rush should be the best in the country so that can only help out our secondary

Really liked how Diggs made massive improvements in punt returns between the regular season and bowl games. He was night and day, and clearly he earned some trust too.

Hopefully that is a sign of things to come with his defensive play. If Diggs and Carter can step up that'd be a huge plus to go along with Smith and Thompson.

JMO Diggs isn't a DB and will return to what he does really well and that is a receiver.

Anybody heard how Kyriq McDonald is progressing. He looked good in the A-day game.

Wouldn't shock me if armour-davis started at the other corner opposing saivon Smith. Agree that the pass rush will help out tremendously.

I think for Diggs, his nerves have always held him back. No doubt he's a great athlete, but he seems terrified out there. I think you're right though. I think he's getting more and more comfortable out there, and hopefully he'll become a trustworthy playmaker as he gains confidence

Yeah his ball security has improved, I used to cringe everytime he fielded a punt.i look for him to take a few to the house in the future.

I dont think Diggs is gonna workout at CB. I think he moves back to offense.

Im thinking Nigel Knott ans Saivion are the starting CBs.

Yeah I see Diggs if he stays at DB being a safety. There is also another JUCO DB I see we might go after which I think would put him in the rotation as well.

If we were to pick up T Campbell or P Surtain I think both depending on when they arrived could push for early playing time.
