1992 is without a doubt my favorite national championship season

Aside from 1925, it is probably the only championship season in Alabama Football history where the Tide remained an underdog for the entirety of it. Lee Corso was on ESPN calling us the worst 4-0 team in the country, the worst 5-0 team in the country, the worst 6-0 team in the country, and on and on and on. No one had us ranked up there with those elite teams like Miami, Florida State, or Washington.
They were also the bluest of blue collar teams. Alabama got it done the old fashioned way. While teams like Florida State and Miami were getting it done through the air, we were grounding it and pounding it. Two yards here, three yards there, all the way down the field. And of course that defense was freaking legendary. Eight of the starting 11 were First Team All-SEC.
And then, of course, you have that Sugar Bowl game. Alabama was anywhere between a 10-14 point underdog. That defense played the game of its life that night. If not for them and special teams, I don't think we beat Miami. The offense only had one good drive all night long. Almost all of our points were set up by the defense.
So I will always have a special place in my heart for 1992. Before Saban got here, that's literally all we had left to hold onto. Four national championships and 25 years later, they are still my favorites!

A little voodoo here/telling on myself.
I missed that game due to work and it was a shitty job. I regret it, but it was a choice of quitting the job or watching the game...and we were supposed to get blown out anyway.
I worked at a Mexican restaurant as a dishwasher, and the cook who also got stuck working that night was a Miami fan. It was just the 2 of us in the kitchen(and that was 2 too many, dead as hell) and we listened to the game on the radio.
Winning was a huge surprised and made a crappy night awesome, but I still regret my choice. Being responsible sucks arse.
34-17 is one of my favorite "game score guesses" because of the Miami game.

Yeah, I agree...think that was the best ever Bama defense...lots of games we won in spite of our offense...if anyone would've told me before the Sugar Bowl that Barker would go 4-13 for 18 yards and 2 INTs, I'd have thought we'd have lost by 3 TDs...
I remember it was Corso and Craig James on Gameday back then...everyone was picking Miami to win big 'cept for James...right up to Gameday, James said "There's something 'bout this Bama team...I think they'll pull the upset..." And then on the show right before kick-off, James changed his mind and picked Miami to win it...with Lamar Thomas catching a late TD to clinch it...
After the game, they went back to those two and they were wearing Bama gear and saying, "What did we tell you? Bama all the way..."

Actually, there was one sportswriter out in Tucson, Arizona, that voted Alabama #1 the whole year long.

the texas 2009 one was special to me. so was beating the dog shite out of notre dame.
but, i'd be lying if i didn't say the 1992 held the most "special" award.
This is all probably because we never expected to win the national championship that year at any point. So each new game heightened that sense of excitement and then it was topped off with a well earned trophy.

92 is my favorite as well.
A number of players on that defense were from the area I grew up in, most notably Antonio London and Jeremy Nunley.

Still awesome to watch, I was young but I was there. Dad had on the huge Bama hat with the cord across the front lol. When Teague danced into the end zone on the interception I've never heard a crowd so loud.

We had a friend of the family, her kids, and her fiancé (super smartass) from Tampa staying with us while they were looking for a home. He had everything imaginable in the Miami colors and logos. I heard BS for a week leading up to the game. We were going to get totally destroyed. It was glorious.

My last year in school at Bama. Lived directly across Hackberry from the practice fields. Used to sit on the front porch and watch practice (2nd floor). Had a few good friends on that team. That was MY Bama team. Incredible season.

By far my favorite season and game.
I've told a little bit about why I love this game so much, but it's snowing and I don't have shite going on so I'll go into more detail.
In 83 when I was 7, my dad committed suicide. So it was just me and my mom after that. Well, she had to work so I would spend most days, after school, at my grandparents house. My grandfather tried his best to fill the hole left by my dad, but he was a WW2 vet and he was in really bad physical health. Around '86, we started watching Alabama football games together, whenever they were on tv (maybe 3-5 games a season). Around '88 we started sitting around and watching all the games that came on every Saturday. That '92 season was the last season we got to watch football together. The Sugar bowl was the last game we watched together. He was so damn proud of the team. He got really sick later in the month of January and spent the rest of his life in the hospital. He passed away at the end of March, almost 3 months after Bama won it all.
Nothing will ever top that season or game for me

Best defense in the history of CFB. Incredible moment when Coach Stallings was carried to mid field, fist raised with a big Texas grin.

Dang dude. That's something I cannot fathom having to deal with, especially as a kid. Sorry you've had to go through that.

London was from Winchester, correct?

You know that was the last game I ever watched with my father.

It was rough at the time. I'm the one who actually found him, thankfully it wasn't gruesome. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and I wouldn't be the person I am today, if I wouldn't have gone through it. You make the most of the cards you're dealt and don't use excuses.
