I was 10 years old. Huge Bama fan and Saints fan. That year made me a spoiled fan Elementary school to sophomore at Bama. It’s been a decade of change for me.

I was 3 months into my first job and moving my then fiance now wife into her apartment in Atlanta days after she finished grad school in Tuscaloosa.
Now, 5 national titles later, I'm an old man with 2+ kids

I was 23. I was thinking today that the Citrus bowl is a lot better than watching the tide get torched by a Hawaii quarterback. We have come a long way.

I was 23 as well, been a hell of a ride over the past decade
Had a nice little sweet spot from about 2012-2017 where I made a lot of home, away, neutral site, and postseason games. The good ole days.

The night prior to the game, from a hotel room at the convention center Westin hotel I watched a tye dyed clad TCu beat Boise State. Weather was bad moving west across 1-20 - it was cold as frick
And I was worried about losing power at home. In retrospect, that was an absurd worry, but that drive from Bham to Jackson listening to Finebaum with my guts in a knot is a drive I will not soon forget.

I was getting sauced at a Jackson Hole bar. Some a-hole Texas fan was talking shite.

I was in grad school getting ready to spend half my savings to fly out with a buddy to Pasadena on the cheapest possible flight (Atlanta to DC to San Fran to Burbank) and stay at the cheapest possible hotel ($60 per night in Sylmar) to watch the game from student ticket seats. My parents gave me some extra cash that Christmas for a rental car for the week because “You’ll probably never get this opportunity again.”

I remember the year before when Bama played their hearts out in the SECG only to lose to Tebow and the Gators...it had been so long since we had won a NC and I knew that a chance to win one had slipped away. I was afraid we might not get another shot for a while.
I could never have dreamed to have the type of decade we’ve had. It was almost just like when I was a kid in the 70’s and Bama was winning a shitload of games. But with more NCs.

I was still in shock over beating Florida. That SEC Championship game will always be etched into my memory as the moment when Alabama took the next step from pretender to contender.
After beating Tebow and Mark winning the Heisman, it seemed too good to be true that we could win it all. All my family watched the game at my grandma's and I hugged my dad and cried when it was over.
I was 23 then, but those tears were years of failure and frustration finally being exorcised: from 11 year old me getting mad at Dad for predicting Auburn's 1-point win in '97, to 13 year old me sobbing in the floor after the missed kick in the Orange bowl, and so on...
Anyway, here's something kinda funny: Alabama began the 2000's losing to UCLA in Pasadena, and ended the decade by winning the title there.

There seems to be a lot of us from 1987 in here

I had just found out I was pregnant with my 9 yr old. Riding on the plane with all of the smells was an adventure.

Yep. I’m another one. I’ll never forget Dareus with the spin move before running the pick-6 into the end zone.
Other memorable moments:
-Cody blocking the UT FG
-McElroy hitting Upchurch for the game winning TD against AU
-Arenas sealing the win with an interception in the SECCG
-Taking a pic of the TV while Tebow was crying

Yeah, the weird thing to me is this was the decade when Alabama football got back to “normal”!!! Normal being a dominant juggernaut. There’s nothing normal about it and it’s been fun as hell but to a guy who was born in the mid 60’s and grew up watching a couple of Bama games a year with Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles calling them on ABC in the 70’s, it feels normal, the way it should be. Bama contending every year, striking fear and loathing into our rivals, winning a natty every few years and a back-to-back every now and then. The only thing that is different is the rise of Auburn from a mediocre program to formidable rival and I don’t like that. It’s been a helluva ride that I have thoroughly enjoyed, attending 2 national title beatdowns in person in New Orleans and Miami with my little girl. My little girl who is matriculating to the Honors College in Tuscaloosa this fall with an eye towards Med school.
