Lane Kiffin Reacts To Dabo Swinney’s Controversial Remarks About State Of College Football
© Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports
A couple weeks ago Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said the current state of college football needs to be “blown up.” While on The Rich Eisen Show this week, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had this response to his remarks...
quote:

“I read that — I actually texted him, ‘Good job,’ on it because it is,” Kiffin said this week on The Rich Eisen Show, via 247Sports. “I’m for the kids making money. It’s just there’s no — I said it from Day 1. No salary cap in the NFL — how does that work? And different teams have different money, and there’s no real contracts off it because they’re not necessarily locked in. So technically, everybody could be a free agent every year. And really — think about how messed up the system is. If you’re a great player — you’re Bryce Young after the national championship last year. You should go in the portal — even if you wanted to stay at Alabama, ’cause all you’ll do is drive up your price there, because then the collectives, they’ll suddenly come with a lot of money, Alabama people to keep you. So what would any player do — to opt into a free agency every year? They would do it, test the market, and get the most you could.”

How many coaches are currently in the transfer portal?

Coaches sign contracts with buyout clauses and the like. It's not so easy for a coach to just up and leave, and not as much incentive.

He’s dead on about it being free - agency every year. Especially with teams like Texas and Texas A&M who are openly buying recruiting classes and players. The market will likely regulate itself, but its lawless right now.

If any of these coaches had asked for a college draft to allow for some level of parity, they'd be more believable. At this point it's just sour grapes.

You can't force kids to go to certain schools. That's absurd.

I said this from day one. This is opening Pandora's box. It's not nearly as absurd right now as it has the potential to be. Texas A&M buying their class is just the beginning. Kiffin is right. Why wouldn't Bryce Young enter the portal and see if he can collect $10 million dollars from someone. Maybe Oregon/Nike would be willing to shell out that money. You're going to reach a point where players are getting paid more than the coaches.

Are these kids paying regular taxes on these deals? How does the free schooling + NIL money look to the IRS? IRS could get this all straightened out quick. I gave up on CFB during the initial woke years, and this woke + transfer portal + NIL era = keeping me away. I'm not naïve to what was going on in the background in the prior, but at least the game kept itself was different to the individualism of the NFL. Sad for sure.

That is a good question. I wonder if the schools sponsor a CPA to keep these kids’ money straight?

These kids will be in for a world of hurt if their NIL income is reported to the IRS via a 1099-NEC/MISC.

Everything we love about college football is because of….

Bingo. People were idiots on both the portal and NIL. A&M will now have to find a way to keep their millionaires happy. THAT will be an issue. Once the govt got involved college football was fricked.

Dabo cries a lot. No surprise as he was a former bama player and graduate. Bammers cry so much when they don't get their way.

Did he comment on Dabo's brother getting arrest in a Child porn sting
