According to a new story from the Los Angeles Times, the emails sent by Jon Gruden to former Washington Football Team general manager Bruce Allen that led to Gruden’s resignation were part of a court filing by WFT owner Dan Snyder back in June. At least one email from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter also appeared in the court filing...

This morning, Schefter joined “The John Kincade Show” on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia to attempt to clarify the story behind his email to Allen...
quote:

“I’ve learned for a long time in this business not to discuss sources, or the process, or how stories are done. But I would just say that its a common practice to run information past sources,” Schefter said. “And in this particular case, during a labor intensive lockout that was a complicated subject that was new to understand. I took the extra rare step to run information past one of the people that I was talking to. You know, it was an important story to fans; a host of others, and that’s the situation.”
ESPN also released a statement to the Los Angeles Times in regards to Schefter’s dealings with Allen...
quote:

“Without sharing all the specifics of the reporter’s process for a story from 10 years ago during the NFL lockout, we believe that nothing is more important to Adam and ESPN than providing fans the most accurate, fair and complete story,” the statement reads.

I really don't care about these individuals' emails. Look into Hillary's emails. Look into Hunter Biden's emails. I pay their salaries. I don't care about these people whose salaries I don't pay.

Get over it dude. R's and D's will never let it happen, they are all in the same boat together.

I don’t really like AS, but even I am having trouble understanding what the big deal is here. He sought approval or offered someone else a look at the piece to verify or suggest some information is incorrect? Is that terrible? And, if doing that is part of the reason he breaks stories before others then it’s quid pro quo and helps him do the job better than others. This is a non-issue.

I don’t see what he did wrong. It’s not like CNN and MSNBC reporting fake news.

Gruden talked shite about a white guy & a black guy. 2 people he didn’t like obviously. Now he is a homophobic, racist, misogynist, etc!

They said "from 10 years ago" to make it sound ancient and irrelevant. If only that standard applied to Gruden

Verification of a story with sources use to be common place to get a story right . Nowadays it’s unnamed sources, meaning it made up stories

I think the point is that he's not actually verifying information-but he has plausible deniability if he says that was his intention. He was actually giving someone a chance to put the final ok on a story instead of FULLY reporting facts... But, its why Adam Schefter breaks what he does. He's a mouthpiece for NFL higher-ups. He does their PR work, they give him 'breaking' info.

He's acting as a spokesperson for an organization, not as the journalist he is supposed to be.

I think what might be the "bad" of this if taken the wrong way is that he is giving someone an opportunity to form the story how they see fit before he files it. He and ESPN are explaining the pretense of the email and that its not like that at all.
