Sounds Like Johnny Manziel Is Giving Up On Football.........
Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports
27-year-old Johnny Manziel, aka "Johnny Football," isn’t officially retired from football, but after attempting to play in the NFL, CFL and AAF, it sounds like he’s coming to terms with the possibility that his playing days are over...
quote:

“In the past, probably, is the way I’d characterize it,” Manziel told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “I’ve finally got to a point where I’m trying to achieve happiness in life, not happiness on the football field.

“I know a lot of people probably want me to come back and play and give it another chance, but I don’t know, as far as being a person and figuring out life as a young adult — trying to make it and figure it out — if I’ve ever been in a better place than I’m in right now. I can honestly say I’m happy and I’m doing the right things to try and put a smile on my face every day, and that means more to me than going out and grinding on a football field.”
...
“I had a great time,” he said. “Anytime I ever stepped between the lines, I had an amazing time. I gave it everything I had.

“I think it’s just, the work you put in when you have the free hours and when you do things on your own, that matches up accordingly with what happens on the field. And when you get to thinking that you’re too good or you’re better than the game, it’ll humble you. And that’s what happened. I got humbled. Thank God I did get a chance to be humbled, because when you think you’re at the top of the world, it’s a dangerous place.”

“People can call me whatever they want,” he said, “but at the end of the day, I’m proud of what I did. I’m proud of what I accomplished. I bettered myself. I bettered my family’s life. I got a chance to play amazing college football, and it didn’t work out in the NFL and that’s OK.”

Washed up and washed out at 27. What a waste.

Other than beating Alabama one time by a touchdown I don't see the big deal about him. Never did.

Then you need to go watch his 2012 highlights again. Vince Young in 2005, Tim Tebow in 2007, Cam Newton in 2010, Johnny Manziel in 2012, Joe Burrow in 2019–top 5 best QB seasons I’ve seen in any order.

He should've retired after college. He had one helluva college football career. Beat every CFB powerhouse except LSU.

PS - Hard to believe he's still only 27. Seems like he's been a has-been for 10 years or so.

Hard not to think he painted himself into this position

Best of luck Johnny, but I don't think there are too many people who want you play again.

I thought he did that right after the end of his final college game.

I don't get the hate for him. He was an arse. He's admitting it here. He's talked about his issues. Been very open. I hope he does well.

He could have a career on SEC Network. They brought him in as a guest analyst once while he was still playing—might have been for the 2012 or 2013 Natty pregame show (don’t remember exactly) and he looked and sounded pretty good on camera. I’ve never hated the guy and wish him the best.

How quick does it come out that he is trying to make the PGA Tour? He has a solid golf game and wouldn't be surprised if thats his next step!

If it wasn't for the variety of things he smoked, plus all the alcohol, he coulda been a contender. I wonder if he is going to lose it when he comes to the realization that not making it is all his fault.
