Tim Tebow Gets Destroyed In New Book About John Elway
© Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Tim Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos and played with them for two seasons. A new book about John Elway by Jason Cole, Elway: A Relentless Life, has been released and does not paint a good picture of Tebow during that 2011 season...
quote:

The book alleges that Tebow charged $50,000 to speak at churches. He was reportedly asked by Elway’s wife to speak at a charity event, but Tebow’s brother said it would cost $50,000. The Elways reportedly declined.

One Broncos staffer allegedly called Tebow: “The most self-centered humble guy I’ve ever met.”

As far as the on-field play goes, Tebow was lost, according to the book.

“As one teammate put it bluntly that season: ‘He has no idea what’s going on out there. If the first read doesn’t work, he’s just making it up.’”

This really isn't a fair criticism. When people get as popular as him the speaking requests get way out of hand. The high price is not just about making money, it's about filtering speaking requests and not having to constantly turn 100's of requests down every day. I know that is what the Robertson's had to do. They tried as long as they could to be affordable but eventually it was just too many requests to handle.

Why would Elway even go there. Who knew he was such an insecure prick?

Elway did not go there. The book, which Amazon says is an "unauthorized biography," is "about John Elway by Jason Cole." The excerpt from Cole's book quotes an unnamed staffer and a teammate, not Elway. Says the Elways declined to pay a speaker fee, but nowhere quotes either Elway as a source of the story.

So Elways wife was pissed that Tebow wanted money to speak at her “charity” that probably pays family members six figures to do nothing? Man, what an a-hole.

You are making many assumptions here. Maybe her charity is Clinton level corrupt. Maybe she is a sphincter. But there is no evidence of this and you determine it is probable? You’re assumptions say more about you than Mrs. Elway or her charity. And it’s “probably” not good.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but a now retired college position coach that I know swears that Tebow came to his school and was a complete fraud. I don't specifically remember him saying anything about a speaking fee, but I remember him saying that Tebow required the entire suites area of the stadium secured up for his dressing room and acted like he thought he was a rock star. I know he said he demanded all kinds of shite and then only spoke to the kids for like 5 minutes. I don't remember more of the details but he was not impressed with Tebow at all. Take it for what it's worth. I know, not much but...

Churches are businesses that provide a service. I see nothing wrong with Tebow’s stance. Now if someone asks him to contact a dying fan or something out of pure human compassion and he asks for money for that then that wouldn’t look good.

Churches aren't businesses.

if they're businesses then they'd get taxed that way. can't have it both ways. also: taxation is theft

I’m shocked that a son of a pastor would know how the money flows in and out of churches and that he should ask for a piece of the pastor’s take. Lol

Here's what this means .... Elway : But, but I am the GM and SB winning QB. It's not fair that this kid is more popular than I am, especially in Denver. I'm the Broncos hero, not him.

Or maybe Tebow really is a douche and is just putting on a masquerade for the camera.

Dude, you're very delusional to even think that tim tebow is more popular than John Elway. John elway is a fricking god in denver. Get off the drugs.

You don't really think that at any time, even when he was winning games, Tim Tebow was more popular than John Elway? Elway is a staunch conservative and if he ran for governor, he'd win with 85-90% of the vote. He's a deity in this state. He actually IS the Broncos here. And always has been.

Tebow passed for 50% completion ratio his rookie year. Elway was 47%. #suckit

So Elway is upset that Tebow wouldn't do a free speaking engagement for one of his wife's pet charities?

It's a slippery slope when you start giving your services away. Next thing you know, everyone wants them for free. Unlike other people, his fee is not going in his pocket, but to his foundation which does great work. As far as the on the field things, shame on the Broncos for not researching him and realize that he was not a NFL QB in the evaluation period.

This really is a dumb story. 50k is/was his market rate for speaking engagements. When you start giving away your services for free or at a steeply discounted rate, you eventually lower your market value. Why pay him 50k when the church down the street had him speak for nothing?
user avatar
MoarKilometers43 months
Eh... when your family survived exclusively off of church donations for decades, and you just became a millionaire, 50k appearance fees are a really bad look.

Tebow is the GOAT CFB player. Elway should show some respect. As for speaking fees: - That's between him and the churches. There are wealthy mega-churches that can easily afford that. - Maybe Tim realized he has to have income beyond pro sports. - Tebow has been on HS, CFB, NFL, and MiLB teams. If he's a jerk then there's a lot of people who know. But is this to say 'this' publicly?

Why does one of the top 5-10 players at his position in the NFL, with 2 SB rings, give two shits about some kid who really rocked it in Gainesville, FL? And for the record, there's no bigger a-hole in sports than John Elway. So it figures he'd resent another a-hole.

The money wasn't going in Tebows pockets, it was going to his foundation.

I invited Elway to speak at my kid's Sunday school, and he didn't even respond! Why does Elway hate America?

Tell me again how much the Clintons and Obamas charge to speak at an event? $50K sounds like a deal, and I would rather hear TT speak than Hillary or Barack.

Really? You would rather hear Tim Tebow speed? About what? He goes around acting holier than thou and then tries to charge churches to speak

‘He has no idea what’s going on out there. If the first read doesn’t work, he’s just making it up.’” That was pretty much the entire playbook at Florida, though.
