How Much Money Andrew Luck Is Giving Up By Retiring?
© Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports
Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck shocked the world by retiring after his team's preseason game against the Bears on Saturday night. The 29-year-old, 4-time Pro Bowler had three years remaining on his five-year, $122 million contract. So how much is he leaving on the table by walking away?

I would retire immediately if I had a fraction of his $40M

None, they’re paying his contract.

no, they're just not seeking recoupment of his signing bonus.

Johnny Depp and Lenny Dykstra have both already contacted the Colts offering Luck free financial advice.

This is on Indy for putting a shitty O Line to block for their “face of the franchise.” Since Luck has been in the league they never had a competent line till last season. PATHETIC....

Luck is smart because he doesn't have 10 babies and 10 babies mommas to support. That's the first step of a sound retirement plan.

$64 M left over 3 years? That seems like a lot of money to give up just to play a total of 8 games.

Dude is injured almost every single year in the league. It's like Tony Romo who kept coming back and kept getting injured until he finally just decided to hang it up. The next injury could have possibly ended his career. My guess is that Carson Wentz will be the same in a year or two.

After a year of retirement, can't he negotiate with ANY team? Maybe he just really dislikes Indianapolis (and I wouldn't blame him).

Luck has a Stanford education, with a BS in aeronautical engineering. Smart guy, and he’ll do just fine in whatever he decides to do.

If I’m him and I’m worth $40M, I’m out too. Good for him. Go enjoy your life some more

With CTE there should be a cap on years to play. It will also give more opportunities to more players

Don't understand why Brady continues to play.

As a Steelers fan, Ben is injured every year and throws too many ints. We should have gotten the QB of the future 2 years ago. I'm still pissed we didn't go all in for Mahomes like I wanted. He would have done just as good in our offense as he did in KC.

Made plenty including basically 2 seasons he did not play due to injuries. Saving his brain and body, retired and set for life by the age of 30, and still has tons of options to make even more money

"Andrew Luck had 3 years, $64M left on his contract including a $6M roster bonus to be paid 9/17/19." He could have limped along for a few more weeks and pocketed $6MM. This an honorable man.

He earned $97m already. Even after agents and 50% taxes, he has to be sitting on $20m. At conservative 3%, that’s $600k per year. I think he’s ok. I applaud his decision. He doesn’t owe the fans or anybody anything. Good move.

He had a lot of endorsement money as well. Estimated net worth is $40 million.

Anyone who can walk away from that kind of money, is clearly making a level headed and thought out decision. Proud of him for doing what he feels is best.

Health is more important than money. Ask any rich person who has been injured.

he's got money - a lot of it. Unless he wants to live a very lavish lifestyle, with jets and fleets of cars and homes all over the world, he's got more than enough to last several lifetimes And he's a simple and very smart dude, so I think he can survive with $40M in the bank.
