The Saints Tried Move Ahead Of The Patriots to Grab QB Mac Jones
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Apparently during Thursday night's first round of the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints were scrambling for a way to move up ahead of the New England Patriots to grab Alabama QB Mac Jones...

"New Orleans was trying to get into the top 10 to get a cornerback, there's no doubt. I think it was [Jaycee] Horn. They tried, but they couldn't get in there, they were too far back to get in the top 10. But, and I've had this confirmed to me by two teams, they were trying to get up above New England to get Mac Jones. I don't think there's any doubt about that. Everybody will deny it. I'm just telling you. They couldn't get there. Why? Because Minnesota traded with the Jets and Minnesota didn't go back as far as New Orleans, and got a good deal. No. 13 wasn't moving because [Rashawn] Slater was there, and the Chargers weren't going to move. No. 12 wasn't moving because Dallas was going to take [Micah] Parsons. No. 11 became [Justin] Fields. So, there was nowhere for them to go. I don't know if the Saints called New England to try to trade for that pick or if they knew New England was going to just take Mac Jones."
Would you Saints fans have liked that?

Don't worry. The Saints will likely get a top 10 draft pick next year to make up for it.

I’m so glad the Saints didn’t pull of this trade. Mac Jones will be a career backup in the league.

The hubris it takes to think you know better than Sean P and Bill B is astounding and sad at the same time. But there will be many.

Nick Sagan takes advantage of 4 and 5 star players and put them into position to win championships. He doesn't prepare them for the league. It was the same way when he was in Baton Rouge. You can bring up Julio Jones or Tua, but for guys like that, college was just a formality. They were going to be great regardless of what college they went to. How many players does Alabama get drafted in the first round only to see them virtually disappear afterwards. In my opinion, Mac Jones will be no different. New Orleans' draft wasn't great (with the exception of Adebo, it was pretty bad actually) but it least the didn't trade away there future for someone, who I think, is destined to be a veteran backup.

Agree 100%. How many Alabama QB's are playing in the NFL? How's McElroy doing? McCarron? How about Sims?

You mean to tell me the two teams have to agree on the trade and it's not as easy as just moving back?

Cajunbullet, Mac Jones had a lot more talent around him that Book did. Not saying that he will be better than Jones, but don't bank on Jones being a savior in New England either!

Book wouldn't have a clue what to do with the surrounding talent Mac had. He's a run-around clown with no pocket awareness and a noodle arm.
