QB Drew Brees and the Saints have agreed to a two-year, $50M deal with $27M guaranteed to stay right where he is in New Orleans. While the contract is technically two years, it will actually be for one year with a team option for 2019, and also contains a full no-trade clause. And according to ESPN’s Mike Triplett, he took a pay cut. I guess another team was willing to give Brees a two-year, $60 million contract with all guaranteed money. Brees talked about that...
quote:

“I’d be lying if I said it [wasn’t hard to weigh maximizing his value and raising the bar for other players versus helping the team],” he said. “Because I know that when any player does their deal, they typically look at the comps and base their deal on those — and what is ‘market value.’ … I’m sure that one of these quarterbacks coming up — Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins — is going to set a new mark.”

Does this make you happy?

Makes me happy. With Drew over the next two years and if the Saints can stay healthy, they'll be the favorite to win the Super Bowl. He will retire a Saint and be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer which will also be a 1st for the New Orleans Saints.

He will also retire as the all-time passing leader & the only one that has a shot at him is Brady, if he decided to play until almost 45...

I’m fine with this, but to be honest I was really hoping he would take a pay cut in the name of winning another super bowl.

considering what he accepted and what he could have gotten, this is about as big a pay cut as you could get. he really did help the team - despite people not wanting to admit it.

He is getting $50 million over 2 years, while Tom Benson is getting just $40 million over those same 2 years from state tax payers who subsidize his team. To hell with the richest man in Louisiana and the Saints!
