What's The Best College Football Team Kirk Herbstreit Has Ever Seen?
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN published a list of the 150 greatest college football teams of all time this week, however, one of their own disagreed with their choice for number one. Kirk Herbstreit doesn't think the Nebraska's 1971 team is the best ever...
quote:

“I would put it between 1995 Nebraska, 2001 Miami and 2009 Alabama and I would probably pull the trigger on 2001 Miami. A lot of great players on that team, great leadership by Ken Dorsey, athletes like Andre Johnson.

They just walked into that national championship and blew out Nebraska. Think of that backfield with Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore in the backfield alone – Jeremy Shockey…that was a dangerous team,” Herbstreit said.
Who's you vote for best ever?

'95 Nebraska's closest game was a two TD win over Wazzu with turnovers and garbage time scores closing the scoring margin. 2001 Miami needed a near miracle to hold on at BC, and then got carved up by Kevin Jones in Blacksburg, but held on for a 2 point win. Gimme the '95 Huskers.

95 Nebraska = GOAT

What they did to Florida in Arizona tells me they were likely the best. Nebraska wasn't even supposed to have a chance against the far superior UF speed and they made UF look like children...

Agree, Huskers were the best ever that year.

It is crazy that the 2001 Miami team had Frank Gore playing for them and he is currently still playing in the NFL.

I think 08 Gators. Tebow, Louis Murphy, Percy Harvin, Marcus Gilbert, Chris Rainey, Pierre-Louis, Joe Haden, Carlos Dunlap, Riley Cooper, Major Wright, Janoris Jenkins, Brandon Spikes, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, Aaron Hernandez. Looking at the roster, that team was stacked.

When they asked who was the most dangerous college football team ever they didn’t mean it literally

That list reads like a prison ministry. A preacher and a bunch of thugs!

Agree with Herbstreit. 01 Miami, 95 Nebraska, 09 Bama

01 Miami might have ended up with the best nfl players but 95 Nebraska was a buzzsaw.

Didn't the 2002 Miami/Ohio State game have like 2/3 of the total team rosters play at least a down in the NFL?

1992 and 2011 Bama defenses were the best I’ve ever seen. But I understand you have to rate the entire teams in all aspects.

Lsu literally had a better defense that very year. Holy hell.

2011 LSU defense was better, because it did two things 2011 Bama defense didn't: 1) Face a top-40 offense (LSU faced two top-10 offenses, Oregon and West Virginia. 20 Get Jordan Jefferson to a national championship game.

2011 Alabama was second to 2011 LSU's defense

Miami’s defense would shut down the wishbone.

Yeah, well I thought Florida's unbelievable 95 team would shut down Nebraska too until they played and Nebraska won 62-24. Nobody did that to Spurrier. That team also gave Saban his worst loss ever until this day.
