Texas Head Coach Tom Herman Makes Powerful Statement About Race Relations in America
© Bethany Hocker-USA TODAY Sports
On Tuesday, Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman gave a powerful statement to the Austin American-Statesman about race relations in America, specifically how it relates to his football players...
quote:

“Can the average fan relate? No, they can’t,” Herman said. “There’s a double standard maybe a little bit. We’re going to pack 100,000 people into [Darrell K. Royal Stadium] and millions watch on TV that are predominantly white — not all of them certainly, but most of ’em white. We’re gonna cheer when they score touchdowns, and we’re gonna hug our buddy when they get sacks or an interception.

“But we gonna let them date our daughter? Are we going to hire them in a position of power in our company? That’s the question I have for America. You can’t have it both ways.

“And if you’re going to cheer them and love them for three-and-a-half hours a Saturday in the fall, you better have the same feelings for them off the field, because they’re human beings. They deserve the same amount of respect and human rights that all of us do in this country when we agreed on the social contract to be a member of the United States.”

Is it? All he is doing is supposing other people’s racism. Imagining problems is not an avenue for solutions to real ones.

"Are we going to hire them in a position of power in our company? That’s the question I have for America" ..... well we elected, and reelected, a black president, so that answer is yes.

No other man profits more off of UT football, and it’s players, than Tom. Yet he is putting it on the fans being the ones that can’t relate to the players. Raise your hand if you are tired of being preached to and told how to think.

It's dumb...as if UT donors don't line these kids' pockets with money and give them jobs after their playing days are over. GMAFB.

Why do rich black athletes marry white women coach? Ask America that question... Ask black America why they reject men like Ben Carson or Clearance Thomas... Ask why black Americans vote Democrat? 93% is wrong Americans only take issue with behavior...and attitude...which both are bad, people don't want to be around it. Period...call that racism all you want...I call it a cultural divide.

Ask all of the blacks in entertainment alone where they live? Where do they live currently (damn sure not where they were raised)? Double standard!

So we are moving away from being proud US citizens to members who are socially bound via contract?

What a dang idiot! It's da whitey fault. Sooo... if i understand this right, Mr. Floyd spent 5 years in prison for sticking a gun in the belly of a pregnant woman and robbing her and I should want him to marry my daughter?

A position of power in my STEM company with a ChemE, or Interdisciplinary Studies? Does Tom hint as to the qualifications?
user avatar

Well, they're going to college so yes it's quite possible they'll get the "qualifications".

The skillset has to match the position sought. That is what I meant. If they get an Interdisciplinary Studies degree, they need not apply to do surgery.

“But we gonna let them date our daughter?" - No. She only dates soccer players. "Are we going to hire them in a position of power in our company?" - Maybe if they have the ability to calculate and have good communication skills. "That’s the question I have for America. You can’t have it both ways." WAIT!!!! I've got a question for the coach...Will any of your foosball players share their income with me when the go pro and make 10Xs my annual income? You can't have it both ways.

Racism will die down when we stop making it about race. Whites feel defensive because what many people want is reverse racism. Blacks are upset for obvious reasons as well. For the tension to die down, black and white alike are going to have to treat every man equally, and on the merits of his or her works. We also have to realize that the powers to be have a vested interest in dividing us, so as not to disturb their power. Race has become and easy way for them to do this.

It's funny watching coaches try to out grovel each other

Here we go with the fox telling us to stay out of the chicken coop. I wonder where he thinks the money for his HUGE contract comes from ? Maybe you should protest the racism against these young men by refusing your paycheck or refusing to work in an industry that is wrought with what you call racism. I'm sure you can get a real job like the rest of us if you tried.

Yup,now every white person who watched college football is racist. So tired of the white shaming and the white privileged narrative.

Just curious—Is Tom counting Hispanics as white or as people of color? Because, living 20 minutes from Austin, I assure you half of his fan base is Hispanic.
