Paul Finebaum Didn't Hold Back When Talking About Les Miles At Kansas
© Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum didn't hold back when sharing his thoughts on Kansas head coach Les Miles after the Jayhawks loss to Coastal Carolina, 38-23, on Saturday. Per the WJOX 94.5 FM radio show “The Roundtable”...
quote:

“I had a mutual friend of ours on, I think, Tim Brando the other day telling me what a good job Les Miles has done,” Finebaum said on the air. “I now just keep my mouth shut when somebody (that visits Kansas) and talks to Les. I saved my ‘Les Miles as a clown’ take for this show. I just don’t know how anybody can take Les Miles seriously.

“How many games, he’s played 13 games and he’s got two losses to Coastal Carolina? I mean, that’s what we saw in the last year or two at LSU. Now, it was a different level, but you know, I mean he ended up getting fired primarily because he lost to Wisconsin in an opener at Lambeau Field. That’s at least a legitimate loss but he lost because he was just so stubborn.”

“I don’t think Les Miles really regrets it, what I can’t understand is why he got the job in the first place,” Finebaum continued. “Jeff Long clearly was just going into the yellow pages of fired famous coaches with national championships.

“And secondly, I’m still trying to figure out why anybody who covers the game thinks this was going to have any result, other than what we’re seeing.”

Finebaum may be a tool, but he's not wrong here.

Les is a good person but a horrific coach.

"horrifc" may be a bit strong, but he's certainly lost a LOT of credibility.

Thank you Kansas for getting LSU off the hook with wasting more money on Les's buyout!

I’m very happy with the current state of LSU football, but that man gave 100% to LSU. He also continues to be an ambassador after being fired. He deserves a little respect.

With the exception of the BLM worship and the spineless admin cowering to them, Football is in good hands with O.

I don’t think he gave 100%. In fact, I think he was very lazy. Publicity stunts are great but they don’t win football games. He was never a master of the details. The lack of preparation showed it’s ugly head often.

Kansas has been of the worst programs PERIOD force long time. Les has only been there for a bit more than a year. Corona virus fricked up some things, especially for lesser programs. He's had 1 recruiting class. It's not fair to judge his time in Kansas as a failure this early.

The fact that Les won a title at LSU and competed for others is a testament to the quality of players LSU has access to. Great guy, but a very mediocre coach.

If Les responded by questioning why anyone would hire Finebaum, he also would have a valid opinion.

1950s Michigan football at Tiger Stadium 2015 was boring. Waste of talented players...

Eh, he's never liked Les for some reason. I remember him saying on air years ago that he thought Les wasn't a likeable person. I can't think of anyone else, regardless of their opinion of his coaching ability, that thinks Les isn't likable.

A lot of people on the LSU campus thought Les was unlikable, mainly Michael Martin who wanted him gone.

He might be right but it’s still too soon to call it a bad hire. That program has been absolutely terrible and Miles has only had 1 full recruiting class.

It doesn't matter who he recruits. He will still lose games he shouldn't due to his shitty philosophy and game management.

For once I agree with Finebaum.

We all know Les Miles has limitations but let's also not act like Kansas has been a successful program before Les arrived. It would take a coach well above their budget to turn that dumpster fire around.

Spot on. Les was a washed up coach looking for one last payday, and Long helped him get it.
