© Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports
Well, this is quite surprising...UCF was officially listed among college football national champions in the 2018 NCAA record book released this week...

Alabama won the College Football Playoff and I thought the National Championship, but UCF somehow walks away with what they wanted, wow..

Don't forget, they also won the Super Bowl, World Cup, Indy 500, Daytona 500, World Cup, The Masters, the Tour de France, and are looking darn good in their pennant race! If it ain't nailed down, go ahead and claim it boys!

There’s a typo in there.

How is this any different than what USC did in 2003?

That just opens the door for more of this shite in the future...

HAH!!! Auburn screwed Bama TWICE last season!!! Once by winning and once by losing. I bet the Auburn fans would agree that’s one loss they can live with!

UM, no we can't.

This makes me INSANE. Any player or coach who associated with that team that seriously claims a natty should have their man card revoked. The days of poll championships are over. They were supposed to be over during the BCS era, but they are 100 percent finished in the age of the playoffs. It’s no different than an NFC team that missed the playoffs but had a better regular season record than the eventual AFC Super Bowl Champion claiming a World Championship. I guess it’s just all part of the participation award era we live in. It’s just disheartening seeing grown, competitive men buying into it. It just cheapens was an amazing season for the Knights.

There's no question they had a very good team but their opponents weren't exactly the SEC West.

UCF played - and beat - the CHAMPIONS of the SEC West! Next argument.

TDFreak, they beat a dinged up, depleted, and unmotivated Auburn team. Kudos to them for showing up and playing hard...without a doubt, they won the game. But while it was the biggest game in the history of their program, the game was meaningless to anyone whose initials are NOT UCF. They were eligible to be selected for the CFP but did not have the resume' (wasn't they're only other game against a Power 5 school cancelled?). Puhlease.

God damn Auburn for not beating them.

Did anyone bother looking at the teams UCF played during the regular season? Also, winning the National Title as it is set up requires beating 2 of the top 4 teams to ascend to the Title. Maybe I missed where this happened? Otherwise their Title is a completely worthless claim. This also doesn't make good precedence for future similar situations for other legitimate National Title winning teams. Not good.

I just made my own poll, and I’m the only voter. I vote for the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs as 2017 National Champions. I’m even making bumper stickers if anyone wants one.

Well lots of schools do this and they are all recognized. Part of what makes CFB so "entertaining".

I understand what UCF is doing, but the playoff is what determines the national champ, and nothing else.
user avatar

If you don’t play the game, you can’t make the claim. This is a joke.

They're basically just acknowledging that UCF finished #1 in the Colley Matrix. Nothing more. LOL...I never knew that Oklahoma finished #1 in one of the 2003 computer polls despite having 2 losses...WTF?

By this metric, Alabama holds a claim to the 2016 national championship.

Two in a row and one in the championship game. Lol

This is the page listing poll champions. If we are going to use this metric, Alabama has 21 national titles. I'm good with it if this is the metric we want to start using for everybody.

Just shut up. Since the 80's, Alabama has been claiming a national title for 1941 despite 2 losses, finishing 3rd in the SEC, and failing to end up ranked in the top 15 after the season ended. UCF's claim is quite reasonable in comparison.

I am going to get my LSU 2011 National Champions T-shirt out of my closet. I just knew it would be back in style before too long!

The reason being is the NCAA has no control or say so in college football playoffs or anything of that nature .. little jab at CFP , I think .

Can I see their championship trophy? Who did they play for it? What was the final score?
user avatar

1. This has really gone too far. 2. Is UCF the new Bama claiming ships?
user avatar
imjustafatkid68 months
If Alabama used the metric UCF is using here, Alabama could claim 21 national titles.
