Kirk Herbstreit Is Getting Credit For This Major Hire
© Alex Martin / USA TODAY NETWORK
ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit isn't afraid to call out underachieving college football programs. One he's recently ripped into was Miami Hurricanes. New head coach Mario Cristobal gave credit to Herbstreit for his hiring...

Here’s what Kirk Herbstreit originally said about the Miami football program...
quote:

“To me, you look at the powerhouse programs…the president, AD, head coach. Same vision. They’re aligned in their vision for what needs to happen,” said Herbstreit. “Recruiting. Budget. Staff. Whatever it means. That’s what it takes. Miami doesn’t have that. So I don’t think it matters who the head coach is. Until you get a president and an AD and a coach together on the same page, I guess football doesn’t matter. It matters to the alums, to the brotherhood of The U. But I don’t know if it matters to the people making decisions at Miami. And if they don’t change that, it doesn’t matter who the head coach is.”

Kirk's rant was spot on. And honestly, other schools besides just Miami took notice. I think some of what you see at LSU right now is due to that exact thing where the school has gotten everyone to pull in the same direction. Not saying it's because of Kirk, but just that Kirk pointed out what was an obvious issue at several schools with Miami just being the one he named.

Well if that's all it takes I know a school in Atlanta that he needs to go after next before I am forced to enter the fan portal.

Was he crying when he said it? That might have nailed it.

He’s right. The university stopped trying about 15 years ago. They just got an indoor practice facility a couple years ago and they’re still playing “home games” 30 minutes away. They let the U become a joke and no coach is fixing that by himself. The admins need to show they’re serious about football or they’ll just continue to be irrelevant.

Kirk was right and this wasn’t the first time he has roasted Miami. Like it or not, college football is fun when the “bad guys” like Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, and Miami are relevant. Will they get back to the prime U days? Probably not since recruiting and money has changed everything. But Mario Cristobal will recruit the shite out of south Florida and they will have some talent for sure. It would be nice to see Florida and FSU(though they suck now too) have that rival back. If none the less someone to give w a hard game in that weak arse conference.
