ESPN Computer Reveals 4 Teams That Have A Realistic Shot At An Undefeated Season
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN’s Football Power Index has updated its projections for the 2020 season. Their computer model has these four teams currently having a realistic shot at going undefeated this fall...

1. Clemson
Chance at undefeated season: 58.8 percent

2. Ohio State
Chance at going undefeated: 18.4 percent

3. UCF
Chance at going undefeated: 16.2 percent

4. Alabama
Chance at going undefeated: 12.4 percent

Thoughts?

Must be nice playing an ACC schedule.

It is. You should try it sometime.

Clemson is going to have an excellent chance every year with that powder puff schedule of theirs.

Clemson has no control over their easy arse schedule. Same as Kentucky in basketball.

If they come from ESPN's computers, then I don't care.

58.8 percent?!?!?!? This computer must think Clemson is BY FAR the best team in college football. Put aside their absolute joke of a schedule, they still have to play the ACC championship, a playoff game and the national championship.

The computer thinks that Clemson's schedule is the easiest of an of the national title contenders.

I wounder what the odds would be if other teams had Clesmson schedule being how easy the acc is.

It’s schedule. It’s all schedule. The top 4 teams are all roughly the same in terms of talent, but Bama and UGA have to play each other at 1-2x just to make it out of the conference. Clemson plays no one and Ohio State has Oregon non-conference but a much easier road in conference than the other two.

You’re a clown if you think UCF has the same talent level as these 3 other schools

But 58.8% means that the computers think Clemson has a meaningfully higher than 50% chance at beating Ohio State and Bama (and presumably LSU, UGA, Florida). No matter how week your schedule is, there is a statistical possibility of a frick up along the way. Especially when you assume that the CFB playoff game will be against a decent team. This must therefore mean that ESPN's computers have Clemson as a 70% or more favorite against OSU, Bama, LSU, UF, UGA, OU, etc. I just don't see that. Sure Trevor Lawrence is good but he's not the once in a generation player some thought he was (he was bad and inaccurate in the second half of the NC game).

Kentucky a 3-5 team in the SEC was 2-0 against the ACC beating two of its best teams in Louisville and Virginia Tech. Of course Clemson should come out of that league unscathed.

Florida gets LSU at home and UGA in Jax. Considering that both are somewhat reloading, how are they not one of these 4?

I agree with you. Florida should be ranked in the Top 4 to start the season. Florida gave LSU a tough time LAST YEAR in Baton Rouge, and they have a lot of players returning. Their QB (Trask?) will be back, and he is pretty damn good.

Since when did 18, 16, and 12 per cent represent a “realistic shot at an undefeated season?” The premise of the statement is totally negated by those percentages. The computer actually shows that each of the teams other than Clemson has a greater than 80 per cent chance of NOT going undefeated.

Looks about right except UCF. I don’t see them getting through the playoffs unbeaten. Unless they’re talking about regular season only.

espn? they really seem to try so hard but always disappoint. run these numbers again with the same Clemson schedule at some of the top P5 schools and see what "percentages" show. it's really just click bait coming from espn or any other sports network. laughable really.

ESPN has no credibility, so I will pay absolutely no attention to anything they say...

Thoughts? SEC is the best league in CF and has been for a long time.

No SEC team is going undefeated and sports media always seem to forget how hard it is to go unbeaten in our conference.
