American Athletic Conference Officially Adds 6 New Schools
© Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports
The American Athletic Conference officially got bigger this week, announcing the addition of UAB, Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice and UTSA...
quote:

“I am extremely pleased to welcome these six outstanding universities to the American Athletic Conference,” said Aresco. “This is a strategic expansion that accomplishes a number of goals as we take the conference into its second decade. We are adding excellent institutions that are established in major cities and have invested in competing at the highest level. We have enhanced geographical concentration which will especially help the conference’s men’s and women’s basketball and Olympic sports teams. And we will continue to provide valuable inventory to our major media rights partner, ESPN, which will feature our members on the most prominent platforms in sports media. Additionally, we increase the value in live content options for CBS Sports, which features selected men’s basketball games on CBS Sports.”

I'm a bit shocked that no one has any desire to pick up Memphis. Their basketball program alone should make them at least a viable member of a conference, maybe not a power 5 but someone. First the Big 12 didn't offer and now these teams are jumping to the American.

La Tech better hop in the Sun Belt Conf with ULM and the new teams that conference is taking(Southern Miss and Marshall I believe)from Conf USA or get left behind. It’s killing those Tech fans to think they’ll have to go to where ULM is instead of the other way around.

No way La Tech goes back to the Sunbelt. They burned that bridge a long time ago. Thank goodness USM and Marshall are going to the Sunbelt and getting out of the CUSA hell hole. CUSA is about to be out of business.
