It likely means he has to pull his glove away from his body to grip a specific pitch. Gloves stays next to body for fastball, but gloves comes off the body to grip his curveball. Therefore, the batter just watches if glove moves and knows what is coming.

I mean everyone that pitches needs to grip the ball differently for different pitches. You don’t have to be frickin obvious about it though. Especially a major leaguer. If you can grip the ball for a curveball without doing moving your glove around, you are a fricking weirdo.
