The John Emery Jr. academics situation took an unwanted turn on Monday when Ed Orgeron revealed that the junior running back would not be available for the rest of the season.

Back on on August 10, Orgeron said that Emery Jr. was working hard in the classroom this summer and was happy with his progress.
quote:

"John Emery was finishing up some school yesterday. I'm very proud of our players in summer school. We had some guys that had some work to do and we'll have a final report on Thursday but it's looking positive. John Emery was one of the guys and I'm very proud of his work in the classroom this summer."
As the season opener vs. UCLA approached, news of Emery Jr. being out caught many off guard based on Orgeron's prior comments.

Unconfirmed reports have since surfaced that Emery Jr. was taking the wrong class this summer resulting in his ineligible standing with the team. Orgeron was asked about the "wrong class" report on Monday but did not answer.

Fast forward to this afternoon and former LSU running back and radio host Jacob Hester chimed in on Twitter saying that the "wrong class" report is false.

Orgeron did say on Monday that Emery's status could possibly change at some point this season but that it was out of his control. Mike Scarborough of Tiger Bait is reporting that John Emery's family is "pursuing all legal options" in order to get him eligible this season.

Hopefully, this story has a good ending but we probably won't know anytime soon.

He definitely took the wrong class. Instead of taking a class he could pass, he took one he couldn't....

This is barely a better outcome than our preseason OL who now starts at Kentucky. What a bunch of losers.

Would never happen under a competent coaching staff. Especially one with the resources at LSU's disposal. Disgusting.

Lol, sausage making 101 at LSU. They just can’t say that a kid flunked out. It isn’t PC to say that.

This is bullshite. There is no penalty if you take a class out of order....or even the "wrong" class. There is no such thing.

Yeah, Emery is blaming Covid, on-line classes, and deaths of family members. It sure sounds like Orgeron’s fault as he caused Covid, set up the on-line classes, and must be somehow responsible for the deaths of Family members. Some of y’all need to deal in reality.

Why would his advisor not make sure he is taking the right classes?Every student has an advisor.

As a retired professor, I know that some of my advisees would sign up on their own instead of coming by to see me. However, athletes are normally closely monitored by coaching staff, so I would not think he took the wrong class. My guess is there is more to the problem.

If he would have chosen a different class and passed, I guess you could say ‘he took the wrong class’

The guy cheated and got caught or plagiarized and got caught. It is his fault and the only schit show is Emery.
