ESPN's Biggest Offseason Question For LSU: Did Ed Orgeron Hire The Right Coaching Staff?

Ed Orgeron was faced with some big decisions this offseason to hire several new coordinators and coaches to help fix what was a disappointing season for LSU in 2020.

The Tigers parted ways with defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, safety coach Bill Busch, and passing coordinator Scott Linehan. Offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger and defensive line coach Bill Johnson both retired.

Orgeron hired Jake Peetz (OC) and DJ Mangas (PGC) to run the offense and brought in Daronte Jones (DC), Blake Baker (LB), and Andre Carter (DL) to take care of the defense.

According to ESPN's Alex Scarborough, the biggest offseason question for LSU is whether or not Orgeron hired the right coaching staff this time around...

The question that faces LSU this offseason is the same it faced last offseason: Will Ed Orgeron surround himself with a winning coaching staff? Granted, the dismantling of the 2019 Tigers staff was a result of winning a national championship, whereas the 2020 Tigers barely managed to finish at .500, but the result was the same as a slew of coordinators and assistants left or were shown the door. Orgeron is clearly trying to recreate the magic of 2019 by hiring Joe Brady disciples Jake Peetz and DJ Mangas to lead the offense, while former Dave Aranda assistant Daronte Jones was tabbed to serve as offensive coordinator. On paper, they make much more sense than the decision last offseason to bring in Bo Pelini and Scott Linehan, but only time will tell if Orgeron pulled the right levers this go-around. -- Scarborough

ESPN predicted LSU to go 6-6 in 2018. Instead LSU won 10 games, won the Fiesta Bowl, and finished #6 in the Final Polls. ESPN was sceptical of LSU in 2019 and LSU went 15-0, won the SEC West, won the SEC, blew out OU, and beat Clemson for the National Championship while winning damn near every individual award by LSU players including the Heisman. Then LSU had 14 players drafted in the NFL Draft including 5 in the 1st Round. All this and the ESPN Dumbasses only know that LSU went 5-5 when LSU lost 35 or more players off the 2019 Roster and then lost the starting QB. ESPN is a terrible sports network and is losing money hand over fist. They don't even know how to run ESPN much less have opinions that matter. Screw ESPN.

The real question is whether ESPN has any credibility? The answer is they do not, so any commentary from them will be ignored completely.
