LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was asked at SEC Media Days on Monday about the decision to part ways with former offensive coordinator Matt Canada after just one year.

Orgeron didn't hold back, suggesting the decision to hire Canada was a mistake...

It was a mistake. One full year of service and money... not to mention a delay in a true offensive strategy. He may be a good OC, b ut I do not see his offense as an SEC Offense, Once the coaches have seen all of the "fake" routes..they will adjust.

BTW, this was the right response. It clearly was a mistake, and one must acknowledge mistakes. From Canada's inability to keep a job more than a year, it's also clear that he's not blameless. It was unfortunate, Ed O wasn't the only who got a bad taste for Canada, and not every hire in the history of forever turned out perfectly. Move on.

He didn't even look around outside of Lane Kiffin. He followed in the dumbass AD's footsteps.

After the first game I knew we should have scored way more than we did on BYU. There were no long runs all year. Was a suck offensive scheme.

The guy who could move the ball against saban was a mistake? Or you just couldn’t get along with him?

It's like he's daring Joe Alleva to fire him.

No. No it wasn't, and the next coach sucking or not is not a reason to retroactively accept the mediocre decline that Les was becoming.

The grass eating Mad Hatter was done at LSU.

Agreed...and we knew it was coming. It was pretty obvious that we weren't going to replace the most successful coach in the history of the program with someone better. Fans were tired of him though, and it was inevitable that we would move on.

Can't believe people downvoted this. He may turn out great, but there were more qualified people that would have had LSU better last year. Had he maintained being the DL coach and recruiting coordinator and we got Mullen, it would have been game over for the rest of the SEC.

Get over it. Neither Tom or Jimbo were coming to LSU. Each of them was using LSU for leverage. Frankly, I have not yet been impressed by either. Jimbo is not worth $7.5MM.. he has to prove that and Herman's team had 4 or 5 loses in his last year. Let's see what each one proves on the field and then acknowledge them.

So O made a multimillion dollar mistake on his first big decision? Why do I get the feeling it won’t be the last?

I called it before Canada set foot on campus. Never did see what all the shouting was about.

I said same thing. Was never impressive.

He was let go from NC State in 2015 with impressive offensive stats. Leads me to believe he is a douche and hard to get along with. Ended up at Maryland...not exactly a marquee position.

I agree with you. His resume was very thin. Clemson was not prepared to play Pitt in 2016 and Canada's offense played a small part in that upset. Other than that not much to brag about. Wish him (Canada) well but glad he moved on!

Did he comment on his own hiring being a mistake as well?

He admitted to his mistake. And he didn’t hire himself a-hole!

No Kidding. Is this really front page news? I think everyone in the country knew they were not getting along and why.
user avatar
I would imagine that it was because 0rgeron started fricking with the offense.

Definite personality conflicts as well. Probable had the entire offense on edge. I mean, did we really need an offense with pre-snap motions to beat Troy ?? Their chemistry issues effected the entire team.
