I remember as a kid making the state playoffs and being so excited to play on a pro field with astroturf. Then you get on the field and realize it's concrete with a thin carpet. Couldn't imagine making a career on that stuff.

Many a career was ended on that shite.

Recall an old SI article on the 88 Bengals. Anthony Munoz said postgame shower would set aflame all the brush marks from the crappy turf. Cold weather it's near cement.

He should be able to throw a helluva circle change up with that left hand.

First, that is sad. Second, that is a choice. Not only a professional choice, but once that with his money could be readily corrected with today's ortho surgical procedures and rehabilitation.

Yep. Not sure why he is living with them that way when they could be fixed.

Agree, it's his choice. I'm sure there are millions of mechanics, miners, welders, loggers, firemen, etc with mangled and destroyed hands who made a fraction of the $$ this guy made.

Fixing bent fingers seems to be something that can be easily fixed these days. What’s up with that?

Once they’ve been in position like that for a while, it’s nearly impossible to restore normal alignment and range of motion.

I have a finger that would look like that if I hadn't had surgery on it. Was trying to block a punt and the punter kicked my finger. It was an inch shorter right afterwards until the surgeon reconstructed the joint. Have to get those things fixed right after they happen and start to heal.

My left hand pinkie is bad out of whack it makes a S shape when looking at it from the top and doesn’t fully extend. Got caught in a facemask making a tackle. Part of the risk of playing football and I miss playing every day. Wouldn’t trade the memories for anything

He played football and his hands are disfigured related to playing and possibly underlying conditions

Gnarly, yes. Gruesome? Nah, but when has Larry ever been known to use even remotely accurate adjectives?
