Auburn Defensive Coordinator Derek Mason Is Leaving The Program

According to recent reports from Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports, Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason is leaving the program. Linebackers coach/assistant head coach Jeff Schmedding is reportedly set to take over the vacant DC position.

Mason has emerged as a “strong candidate” to claim the Oklahoma State defensive coordinator vacancy following the departure of former DC Jim Knowles.

That's not a strong sign for the Auburn program if he is leaving Auburn for a BIG12 school in a conference that doesn't play defense

Good. The defense under Mason is not as strong as it was under Kevin Steele. Hope the new DC is better.

Why did Steele leave and what is he doing now? He wasn't the DC at any sec team that I know of
