Taulia Tagovailoa’s Father Explains Why He Left Alabama For Maryland
© John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
QB Taulia Tagovailoa has left Alabama for Maryland, his father explains why...
quote:

“It’s really tough and it’s nothing against Alabama,” his father Galu Tagovailoa told AL.com. “But my boys are competitive and Lia is such a competitive kid. And he wanted an opportunity to compete. He was told that he was going to come in and compete and he didn’t really get that opportunity, so he wanted to use the spring to do that.”
...

“With the COVID-19 thing going on, he didn’t really have the opportunity to compete. He’s a competitor. He likes to work. He likes to compete on the field. And just, going into the season this year, he just felt that he wasn’t given that opportunity and he wants to take it somewhere where they’re going to give him the opportunity to make the best of his skill set.”

“He is competitive and wants to compete so he left the competition”...... did you say the same thing about Joe Burrow? Kids want to play. Nothing wrong with transferring to a school where they can actually see the field.

he's competitive and wants to compete against qbs he can be competitive with. Nothing wrong with the logic.

I wonder what his dad did for a living that he could just transfer it to Alabama in a heart beat. It did not surprise me Alabama signed his older brother. It surprise me that his whole family had enough wealth to follow him and dad had work to support them. Or did something else happen here?

They had a nice setup in Hawaii. It’s much cheaper to live in Alabama. Tua was destined to be a millionaire. And Alabama most likely set them up. Didn’t Trent have his whole poor family move up and live in a rich booster’s home? Tua’s family making the move isn’t outlandish AT ALL.

If they could afford a 600k home in Hawaii then there's no reason they couldn't afford to buy a 200k home in Alabama.

"Someone else quit paying the mortgage on our house, so it was time to go."

This has been covered ad nauseam when they first moved to Alabama. The cost of living in HI is much much higher than Pelham or Alabaster Al, whichever it is they live. I don't remember the exact price, but someone even looked up the price of homes in the area they lived in HI and it was like 2-3 times more expensive than where they lived in Bama. As funny as the joke is, boosters were not paying for their house.

Houses being more expensive in Hawaii than the butthole of Alabana does not prove what boosters did, or didn't, pay for.

Seriously, ChipDiamond, just because it’s cheaper to live in BFE, Alabama doesn’t mean they weren’t having their housing paid for or a job lined up or what have you. I’m not saying that happened (I think it did), but I am saying what you assert means dick.

Lol he only got to Bama because Saban wanted big bro. Stop it dad lol.

You know, we almost gave a scholarship to Rodney Sopsher to land the fat slob Ishmael who is currently at the bottom of Alabama's depth chart.

Now that big bro is a millionaire, they can afford to live elsewhere.

Jesus Christ. Big Bro was on his way to being an Alabama legend before baby bro singed.

Dear Facebook, Nick said to leave because I was no longer useful.

Useful? Are you implying that they got Tua because they also offered Lia?

It’s beyond my comprehension how these kids don’t look at a QB room before they sign and make a better choice.

Well to be honest, it was his older brother and Mac Jones when he signed. But with Mac's development and a young gun in Bryce Young coming in, he saw the writing on the wall.

I think it's pretty obvious that he was only along for the ride with Tua. Now that Tua is gone, there's no real reason for Alabama to try and keep him happy...

He wasn’t gonna see the field at an sec school!

Aside from likely boosters stopping payment, it’s pretty logical thought process

Did he not get a chance to compete or did he just not win said competition? I know reps are limited but assuming the later

Dude knew he wasn't beating out Bryce and wanted a place he'd have a better chance to start. Locksley was around when his brother was being recruited so obviously he tried that connection.

Saban only offered the younger brother and promise him a chance to compete, to get Tua.

ReauxlTide22247 months
To get Tua? Tua had won the NC in January 2018. His brother committed 3 months later. To get Tua? Are y’all retarded?

Something is going on in Maryland.... Two of the top recruits in the country and now this... I'm not saying lil tua is some great qb, obviously he could not compete with the level of qb at bama, but I know these guys are not wanting to go to Maryland just to be irrelevant... oh yeah, and to be t.u. once a year.

Not like this is the first time Maryland has gotten 5 star recruits. They drop bags just like everyone else.

What’s going on in College Park is Coach Locksley is outstanding in the living rooms of recruits and the mamas, dads, grand parents, and guardians love the dude. I hope he does really well at Maryland I’m pulling for him.

Baloney. Nick said thanks for playing, but you're not starting in 2020.

A college coach saying “your son can come in and compete” is soooo much different that a kid and his dad hearing, “you can come in and compete.” Dad hears you’re probably our next starter if our Junior QB doesn’t pan out and the coach is out here signing the #1 QB in HS for the next class at the same time. Baby Tua 100% should have left without ANY regret. They did the right thing. And Saban has done the right thing too. Nobody is losing here.
