Paul Finebaum Says He Thinks He Knows Nick Saban's Replacement At Alabama
Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports
This doesn't feel like something new coming out of Paul Finebaum's mouth. He loves talking not only about who's going to replace Nick Saban at Alabama, but that he thinks it's Dabo Swinney. He was on WJOX’s The RoundTable this morning expressing those predictions once again...
quote:

“Who knows when Saban’s day will come, but I’m putting a couple of chips down on the longshot now,” Finebaum said. “It’s no longer off the board. It was off the board, but I just saw it. I felt it. You know? His wife grew up in Alabama. His family is from Alabama. That will be a fascinating gravitational pull when Alabama calls and says ‘OK, Dabo. It’s time to come home.’ I don’t know if it would be as absolute [a no] as I thought it would have been a couple of months ago.”

“I’m probably going to upset somebody, but it’s Alabama vs. Clemson,” Finebaum said. “It’s no contest if you’re thinking about ‘OK, where do I really want to be long-term?’ And I think because he’s from Alabama I’m going to keep pushing that ball up the hill. And the fact that he’s already won that championship [at Clemson]. I don’t think anybody wants to replace Saban — it’s an impossible task.

“But I will say this, before anyone says it’s impossible to replace Nick Saban, I think the only person who can replace Nick Saban is Dabo Swinney.”

When that day comes, Clemson will have a new thing in common with LSU, to their dismay.

It will either be Dabo or Kirby. I'd be ok with either. And yes, everyone will continue to hate Alabama which I love.

Kirby is home and in a perfect situation. Would take something like NCAA trouble or some big scandal for him to leave Georgia.

What Bama is to Dabo, Georgia is to Kirby. Kirby isn’t leaving GA for Bama.

It was only Bama vs Clemson because of Watson. We all saw what happened without Watson

Lol, they went to the playoffs at 12-1 with a QB that couldn't throw for shite. They got that Trevor Lawrence kid now (who looks real good), along with Hunter Johnson. They are going to be back in the playoffs this year.

I'm more interested in knowing how much the next coach will end up being paid. Dont care about the # as much as, if they go more, at, or less than where saban is. I think dabo could get equal or just higher if he plays it right, and obvioulsy stays current over the next 5 yrs.

If I'm Dabo, I stay at Clemson. Easier road at Clemson facing V Tech or Miami in the ACC championship game than to face UGA or UF in the SEC championship game. With no Saban at Bama, it'll be a lot easier to win a national championship and face easier competition in the ACC.
