Alabama head football coach Nick Saban gets paid $11 million this year including his signing bonus.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban gets paid $11 million this year including his signing bonus. Does he think he's worth it?
quote:

“Probably not,” Saban said Wednesday, via SEC Country’s Marq Burnett. “But I don’t really do this for money, never really have.”

“I don’t think it’s up to me to determine what the value is or what the market is for coaches, or what value I have created here for this institution and this place,” Saban said. “I think those people made those decisions. We haven’t asked for anything. We’ve been treated extremely well here. We certainly appreciate it. I appreciate our administration. I appreciate our athletic administration for the way they’ve supported the program and helped us be successful, and I’ve been very thankful for what they’ve done for my family. But I’m not the one that determines what you just asked.”
Uh, he might be worth it.

He doesn't do this for the money hahaha. He left Michigan State for 1.12 million.

He left MSU for a better opportunity to win and was proven correct. Only NFL aspirations made him leave LSU or he would still be here today. The money is the by-product of being the best at what you do.

If MSU would have matched the offer he would have stayed.

When did Saban say that?

He is worth every penny of that to the UofA. It's inconceivable how much money that university makes from that football program. Enrollment, merchandise, donations... all way up since he started there.

No, he's not worth $11 million based on just coaching. But, he is based on how much $$$ he brings to the university and the networks. Simple economics for the university and the networks. He's a winner and brings in the $$$. You pay big bucks to keep the golden goose......

You could add another 1 to his salary this year and I still don't think it equals the profits directly linked to Alabama's football success.

Techdog 89, can't wait for O to kick his arse. Beating him there will be as sweet as Tennessee whisky. Those gumps in gumpville would pay him twice that amount he asked for it. The price of winning is out of hand. Geaux Tigers

he's welcome to come to A&M for a pay decrease and really earn his money if he's feeling guilty.

If Saban isn't worth his salary...then what does that say about Sumlin?
user avatar
Techdog8979 months
Sumlin........he gone! I don't know if he can recover from this. I'm sure there are plans being made to usher him out. Wonder what his buyout is?

Sumlin's buyout is the remainder of his contract paid in full within 60 days. At this time, it would be just under $11.6 Million.

He's under paid for what he brings to the University.

Guy should have interviewed Ferentz @ Iowa about being overpaid. Now that would have been a realistic discussion.

High paid coaches are too highly paid IMHO. I am glad to see Saban has some humility in admitting this. However, with all the money he has made, if he truly doesn't believe he deserves the money, the he should at least donate half of it to hurricane relief and to other charities. Maybe he does quietly but I doubt it.

Can someone please remove these articles that have been at the bottom of the page for a month ? Maybe freshen it up with something less shittastic ? Nick Saban not worth X, Bama coach son shot and killed, Davis shot himself (not true BTW), Linebackers out for season, etc., Plenty of other headlines you could sticky here for months.
