Bill Simmons Calls Nick Saban A 'Coward’
RVR Photos-USA TODAY Sports
During his “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on Friday, Bill Simmons casually went after Alabama head coach Nick Saban calling him a "coward." Per SEC Country...
quote:

“He’s a coward, he left the NFL,” “He’s a coward. You (should) want to compete against the best. The best coaches aren’t in college football; they’re in professional football. And he had a chance to go head-to-head against Bill Belichick, the greatest coach of all-time, he didn’t get the quarterback he wanted in Miami, and like a coward he went back to college, where he stays, where he can just beat up on all these inferior college coaches. Congratulations. He’s the guy who plays Madden on rookie level winning the Super Bowl.

“Come to the NFL, let’s see how good of a coach you are, Nick Saban. When he plays golf does he play from the pink tees? Come to the NFL, let’s see how good you are.

“‘Oh I didn’t get Drew Brees in Miami, I gotta go back to college. I’m just gonna cherry pick all the best high school players on the planet because I’m the head coach at Alabama,’ Simmons said, mocking Saban.

Nick Saban is a very good football coach, but there are reasons why he never had the level of success he has at Bama at other schools or in the NFL. The NFL failure was easy to see- 1- he can't compete on a level playing field 2- grown men who are professionals don't fall for his BS. As for college, he's got the REC that will buy any player he wants. He's got ESPN that's been a promotional arm of the Bama program since the day he was hired. He's got his pal Emmert running the NCAA....notice nothings ever been done about the DJ Fluker situation? Or Clinton-Dix issue being swept under the rug? Saban is master, much like his mentor Billichek, of bending rules and finding loopholes, if not down right doing things he knows are illegal and pleading ignorance if he gets caught. And that doesn't even start to mention the fact the SEC office in Birmingham does everything it can to help Bama/hurt it's opponents. The proofs in the pudding. How many seasons did Saban have with fewer than three losses at LSU? How many championships did he win before? I don't think Saban is Barry Bonds who was the greaterst player of his generation before cheating. He's more like McGuire who was very good, but cheated and was marketed to another level.

This is one of the most pathetic posts I have seen in a very long time - and that is saying A LOT. Here is the reality junior: Alabama was the dominant football program in the SEC before Nick Saban, and will remain the dominant SEC football program after Nick Saban.

I mean, he's not wrong. I'd probably do pretty decent if I had an all star team to coach every year. Saban's great no doubt, but it takes more skill to coach with a salary cap

Yes, yes he is wrong. Saban, Urban, Harbaugh, Peterson, and plenty more absolutely shite on plenty of the NFL coaches we see. Hell, NFL coaches make insanely stupid decisions all the damn time. The are fricking bums that coach in the NFL. It isn't easier to win in college, but Simmons sounds like an idiot in that quote. Coward? He's a college coach. The best ever. That's what he wants.

I mean, he's wrong about everything he said. How old is Bill? He sounds like a fricking 12 year old mocking Saban. Big tall ugly goon.

I like how you can't reply to Admin posts when they don't know they difference between Grantland and The Ringer, or between "Peterson" and Petersen...

His temper tantrums didn't work in the NFL, and he proven he's not that good on a level playing field

Part of me says yeah, exactly, go to the NFL you coward, thus ridding ourselves of this menace, and then the other part of me says F.U. Bill Simmons. Nobody cares about your precious NFL as it pales in comparison to the excitement and atmosphere of College Football, and especially College Football in the SEC. 1 CFBNC is worth 20 Lombardi Trophies. Absolutely could not give less of a shite about the NFL if I tried.

If This Were true any average NFL coach could "step down" and dominate the college game with multiple national championships ....we all know it doesn't work that way. College coaching requires a different skill-set. Saban is more suited for the college game, and will go down as the greatest of all-time.He will be long remembered after these so-called Superior NFL coaches

Saban is great at exploiting things and giving himself a huge competitive advantage. He's an outstanding coach but that's where he truly sets himself apart from the rest of his peers in college. He has endless resources and knows how to best use them to stay ahead of the competition. The NFL is far too level of a playing field, you can't process misfires in the draft or FA without consequences.

He has a valid point although he's a bit abrasive about it.

Bill Simmons had a show on HBO. That is basically his equivalent of Sabah coaching NFL. Bill Simmons show was cancelled after half a season because it sucked. Pot calling the kettle black.

I agree, coaching in college does suck. Especially in the SEC, laugh if you want, but the SEC has horrible coaching. HORRIBLE

College and pro are two completely different games. Some guys are better pro coaches but would fail in college, and vice versa. That doesn't diminish how great a coach they are. And Simmons is just looking to make noise.

So why doesn't coach K coach NBA? Guess he sucks too. Geno must suck because he's never won a WNBA title. Clearly Spoelstra and whatever slap dicks won WNBA titles are better coaches and K and Geno are just chicken shite. Great logic there Bill.

Saban is the best college football coach of his time, maybe ever. He isn't an NFL coach. In college, recruiting IS part of what makes you a good coach while in the NFL coaches can fall victim to GMs and owners, no matter how good a coach they are. I know it is click bait but c'mon.
