Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa Says He Was 'Pretty Close' To Playing At USC
© Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa revealed that he was close to playing football at a different college program before choosing to play for the Crimson Tide. Per LA Times...
quote:

“Our team was USC growing up,” he says. “I used to be No. 11 because of Matt Leinart. He was a lefty, as well.”

Back in 2016, when Tagovailoa was a prized recruit out of Hawaii, there were whispers about him “silently committing” to the Trojans. He acknowledges being “pretty close to going to SC.”

But something happened when Alabama turned up the recruiting heat that spring.
And now he's playing in his second title game.

That story changed a bit, before this he was rock solid on going to Oregon because his mentor Mariota went there until Bama recruited him and Oregon didn't. When Wyoming starts getting thrown in the mix I'd be worried.

It's easy to be great when there's great players around you and everything goes according to plan. But the true ability and nature of a player comes to light when things are not going so great. I've said it before and I will say it again, Tom Brady is a great QB when he has 4 or more seconds to throw the ball, less than 4 and he is barely mediocre. He cannot play at a high level when under pressure. Drew Brews is a hundred times better under pressure than Brady is, so is Eli Manning and a host of other NFL QB's. When Clemson picked 6 Tua's pass and started getting a little pressure, Tua was barely better than average. Trevor Lawrence is a QB beyond his years. He got pressured, but kept his cool and made good throws. BY the time he comes out and to the NFL, Brees will be close to retiring and Payton will be looking for an heir.
