Alabama 4-Star Freshman VanDarius Cowan Dismissed From Football Team
© Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Monday morning that four-star freshman linebacker VanDarius Cowan has been dismissed from the team. Cowan was arrested last month at a Tuscaloosa bar for misdemeanor assault. Per the Tuscaloosa News...
quote:

Cowan was charged with third-degree assault, Tuscaloosa Police confirmed. He turned himself in Thursday and immediately posted $500 bond without having to go to jail, which isn’t uncommon for misdemeanor charges through TPD.

According to the police report, Cowan is accused of punching Jesse Ray, 26, in the face at High Tide bar off the Strip early on the morning of June 23.

Ray told The Tuscaloosa News that he was entering the bar as Cowan was leaving and said he did nothing to provoke him.

Yeah, came into a college bar and punched a guy unprovoked. Sounds like a load of bullshite to me. Don't know the real reason why he was dismissed, but it damn sure wasn't over this, and I really don't believe that's how that altercation went down.

Why don’t stories like this show up in the “Latest SEC Headlines” section. The last story listed there is very old. If you click through the header, there are more recent SEC stories. On the main boards, admins move threads between boards. Small but annoying first world problem.

Didn’t provoke him my arse. They guy that got punched was probably paid by a Gump booster to start shite with VanDarius. VanDaruis takes the bait and boom instant roster spot opens up

So if Bama doesn't kick kids off the team it's "Bama never punishes it's players!". Then we do kick one off the team and it's "He didn't fit into the depth chart, so he got processed!". Got it.

The kid played as a true freshman and Bama is thin at LB. So for Saban to dismiss him, there had to be a real problem.

Saban's such a prick......He's kept kids that did much worse- this is about opening up a roster spot because this kid just isn't as Nicky thought he was.

Punching someone in a college bar is definitely worse than a stolen gun and drugs. Or maybe, Cowan just didn't fit into the Bama depth chart very well.
