That's a double edged sword, though. I don't know what Texas and OU's situations are, but how do you, as LSU, offer this kid $1 million out of the portal and tell your All-American LT he should be satisfied with $400k? Texas could out bid either of us and the rumor is that they are also balking at what he's asking for. At some point you have to say enough is enough. I wish all three programs would turn him down if he's asking for what is being rumored.
Exactly. Signing someone to a ridiculous NIL amount is a surefire way to piss off the entire team.. I read that we were willing to go pretty high for a guy like Jordan Addison.. but that's defensible because the guy was a superstar.
Williams is good.. perhaps even really good.. but he isn't a superstar where it is worth pissing off the rest of the team.
I'd be shocked if it isn't OU at this point.

Someone could argue the other side. The NFL does this as a model. College players all want to get to NFL and understand its an unfair thing money wise, most are happy for those who get the big dollars.
If a player wants to get to NFL and his team can bring in someone to help improve - why would he be against? The better the team means the more press for team and ripple effect more press for other players trying to get there. More press is better NIL opportunities for all players.
I hate we have NIL but its not going backwards so it has to be embraced. I don’t blame the kids getting paid - I blame the NCAA for not seeing this and doing something proactively before it was too late. Never blame the kids.
I really don’t see money upsetting any locker rooms. Its always the attitude and leadership of key players (or lack of) that will hurt a room. Look at Colorado and whats going on there with their HC and supposed “favorite son” locker room leader. Now thats toxic, this is not.

Apples & Oranges..
The NFL has a draft with salaries that match your draft slot. Once that expires, every single player can put out their hand and say pay me what I'm worth..
A 5 Star LT who signed with us out of high school is making X this year.. he will likely be a 1st round pick next year.. perhaps a Top 10 pick..
Should he be okay with us paying a good DT ridiculous amounts of money because he quit on his old team?
Paying the dudes what their worth is one thing..
Overpaying someone only creates a pile of shite in the locker room that everyone has to smell.. and eventually that spreads across the whole program..

Let's not be disingenuous here, BigBro. You'll be singing a different tune if he chooses Texas.

Embrace it all you want. This kid's handler wants more money than Quinn Ewers.

It’s his job to represent this kid to the best of his ability, no qualms with that. And this kid made it to the title game which is more than Ewers ever did.
The market will dictate terms. Plus the kid has been quiet and not been fishing for clicks, refreshing. Same with so called “insiders”, they have no clue where he’s going but are fishing for subs on “inside information”.
Seen so many insiders posting tweets about signing up to get the latest info lol. They are the ones creating drama not this kid. I’d never pay a penny for insiders websites it’s all bait and switch. With social media you can find things out fast nowadays. The only premium sub I have and need is this website

Ditto. I love the new DM feature.

I get the feeling this is a bidding war between BV and Drink, at this point. Whether Drink wins this battle or not, it's more drama build up for our game in November. Honestly, as a Mizzou fan, this is strange territory we're in right now, going-head-to-head on the recruiting trail with "blue bloods."

Schools are doing themselves a disservice by high bidding. They need to say "thats too much" sometimes.

Not sure what this means. I don't twitter.

He's not representing the kid. He's representing himself. The kid is a pawn.

Wasn't this kid a 3* coming out of high school?
Posted on 5/2/24 at 3:04 pm to SidewalkTiger
Not sure. Why does it matter?

High 3* but he had some good offers..
Michigan, USC, Utah, Washington
I like all players that are offered by Utah. Those dudes evaluate talent better than most..

I don't know what his high school ranking was. He's a good player, but supposedly his handler is asking for far more NIL money than any player we currently have on the roster. Try explaining to a guy like Will Campbell why you offered Williams more than 2x what he is making.

I won't be, this kid isn't worth anywhere close to the money he is about to be paid. I would prefer we tell him and his handler to pound sand

I would rather Barrow and the ULM guy over Williams
