I guess it was wishful thinking that the WLOCP would ever be a night game again...

I'm cool with the afternoon time for the WLOCP.

Most people I know are as well.

It probably has to do with UF getting blasted by 20+ points in the last 3 meetings or something…

It’s never been realistic to think this game will be a night kick off again.

Honestly I prefer the 3:30 slot for CFB games in general.

UGA used to have a rule (long since removed due to ESPN influence) that no home game could start at 6:00 or later. This was in place because a large number of UGA fans travel to Athens and back for the game and they preferred to give them some time to sober up before driving home.

We used to have our ESPN "6:00" games have an official start time of 5:59 because of that and would never have home 7:00 games.

I'm gonna need a link on that because in all my life I've never heard such a thing.

I don’t remember this rule either. I think that years ago there might have been a rule that November games in Athens should not start later than 7pm due to the colder weather. It’s been a long time and I’m not sure but I seem to recall that happening

There was something in the B1G about night games in November, IIRC, but that's justifiable.

Coldest game I've ever been to was the DSOR in Athens in 2014. It had to be in the teens on the field. At least if felt like it.

Didn’t multiple people die the last time it was a night game?

Also, WLOCP should be 3:30 forever and always.

I remember my coldest game being the WLOCP in JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA in the early 90s.
They were having some freaky weather. It was unexpected and weird. Strange gray skies and cold as hell. Never been so cold and I’ve sat with UGA fans in the snow in Lexington.

There was a very cold game 15-20 years ago in Athens. Probably against
Ole Miss. It was cold as hell and raining. When we left the game ice was forming on the trees and grass.

It was in effect in the late 90's when I was a student. I'm guessing in ended in the early 2000's. I remember reading a student newspaper article about it explaining why the kickoff was scheduled at 5:59.

I can't prove the rule, but I can show you a home game box score and how it started before 6:00.

UGA vs Auburn in 1997. 5:57 kickoff.

LINK

So while I can't "prove" the rule was there other than my memory, that was the reason I was told that UGA didn't have any 7:00 ESPN/ESPN2 home games while I was in school in the 90's. They were all the 6:00 kickoffs (and officially were set to 5:59, even if the game actually started after 6:00)

It's because neither school wants it as a night game again after a lot of incidents in 2002. Multiple students from both schools died that day, IIRC.

the last georgia night game that i remember was 2008 vs Bama on September 27.

Bama's website says this game started at 6:45pm. eastern/central isn't mentioned.

Bama's Website

UGA's website says TBA.

UGA's website

Nearly dark at kickoff.

We had 3 kickoff times last season at 6:00 or later.

UT Martin 6:00
UAB 7:30
UK 7:00

ETA: Ole Miss was a night game too
