The interview Saban had with Finbum the other day, he mentioned what might need to happen to have some sort of Revenue sharing for the athletes and maintain Title IX for the women. He said could lead to having to cut some sports to pay for it. So,I'm thinking that probably means several spring sports for the men will have to be eliminated to pay these athletes. And the transfer portal seems to be a big target. Condi Rice was dissing on it yesterday. As was Saban.

Men's sports would be football and basketball. Slight chance baseball stays.
Then you have to find about 100 scholarships to give out for women's sports. Women's basketball, softball, gymnastics and tennis would stay. Find some more sports to make up the rest of the scholarships.

I’ve got a better idea. Don’t pay them anything but a chance to earn a higher education.
Until the adults of this country put these children in their place, all these entitled spoiled rotten children will never value education, institutions of higher learning or any type of respect for their self or others.
Call me what you will, but I’d rather see the university recruit the type of student athlete that’s a student first and an athlete second. Because this shite we’re seeing now is the downfall of the universities and college athletics

College athletes aren't children. They are adults in almost every legal sense.

Except to sign a scholarship to play sports you also have to sign a NLI which requires anyone under the age of 21 to have a guardian sign as well even if the athlete is married.

Currently under Title IX the scholarships are not the issue. They meet the criteria. Any funds being issued will have to meet a different threshold that has nothing to do with scholarships.
If revenue sharing and/or pay for play(employee status) was started the threshold will be based on a % of income being distributed to male athletes not scholarships.
Remember in education any organization that receives federal funding falls under Title IX in regard to their empoloyees.

College athletes are children but people that enlist in the military at the same age are not?
I would assume there will be multiple nonrevenue sports cut unless the athletes being paid are not put on scholarship. Their tuition, meal plan, and housing is paid for out of the NIL deals. I don’t know all of the rules so that might not work.

I'd just assume allow universities to secure their own television rights if we're going to just post for play. frick it.

It sickened me how that was always dismissed by the bleeding hearts that pushed for paying players. The players got a ton of value out of scholarships.
That said, we’re passed that now. Hard to make an argument when the optics of coaches making $100 million contracts.

That's kind of why it all boiled over so quickly the last 10 years or so after decades of status quo. Schools started giving out these insane contracts to coaches to prevent anyone from trying to hire them away. When we hired Saban that initial 8/$32 million deal was huge even with his track record. Now $4 million annually is like major conference HC entry level pay. Win 10 games in year 2 and get a 50-75% raise. It's impossible to expect the players to be content with a free college education when they know the school is not only happy to pay their coach millions every year but it's happy to pay him that much to sit on his arse at home if he doesn't win enough games to justify the salary he didn't earn in the first place.

So if I work 40 hours a week and want fair wages, benefits, and a bonus does that make me spoiled? Does it make us spoiled that we have labor protections they don’t? Does it make them spoiled to want that?
I never get this weird holier than thou argument. They’re working a job, the difference between us and them is they can’t negotiate their wages, choose the form they receive it in, and they’re voided of variable compensation like bonuses as well as legal protection.
This is like saying a child factory worker should pull himself up by his bootstraps lol.
I don’t disagree that they’re getting compensated with an education, boarding, and other aspects. Nor do I feel like most athletes will be earning more under a revamped system. But the notion that it’s fair for Bryce Young to only get 40K is a bit silly. The downside of this correction is it will kill a good slew of college athletics because as it stands it’s akin to a socialist angle where Bryce taking less allows for womens volleyball to get an education

You could take these same college and high school seniors and form a paid (professional) league but dont attach a college name to the teams, and almost no one would give a flip about watching it. And these same coaches wouldnt get paid squat to coach them. Their value is almost totally attached to having the name of a certain college school on their back.
