It didn't and that was the point he makes in the article. He was amazed at how it affected some players, and the energy that had to be spent getting them to ignore those external factors.

Maybe he’s more disgruntled that people will believe everything they read on the internet and run with it. He just wants the gullible people to have an idea of what the source is. And he’s most likely right.
He’ll, aggies started a rumor on this board about Arkansas cheating and look what happened. There can’t be a worse source than that…
