My first spent almost 1 year in daycare. My wife would drop him off and I’d pick him up. We both worked full time professional jobs. He’d be asleep when we left him and asleep when I picked him up. During that winter it was dark each time (and if you work 8 hours they are there more like 10-12 hours a day as 8 hour days are really 9 + commute time.) we just couldn’t keep doing it, it felt wrong. When the second one was born it really wouldn’t have made sense. We adapted. Refinanced house, paid down debt, I got new skills and a promotion. Wife found part time work to replace some of her income. Parents and aunts helped when they could.

exactly... you do what you gotta do. kids don't need material things, they need a parent, at home full time till at least 3 or 4. it's totally unnatural, and in my opinion, immoral. you're depriving a child of the most fundamental years of their life for developing self-confidence and emotional security. You can't establish that on the weekend and a few hrs after school.

what also bears mentioning is, you really have no idea what these people are saying to your kid, how they are treating them, etc. i would bet nobody on here would be willing to give their day care worker the keys to their car to borrow for the day, but they're more than willing to hand over their kid. doesn't make logical sense.

I would.

Our nursery is great, I have no doubt over how he is being treated. We get a couple of updates a day inclusive of pictures of what he's eaten, if he's slept and if so how long for, of their activities etc. and you can pick them up whenever you like or pop in to see how things are. It's very open book and the bond he has with his key worker(s) is clear to see everytimr we drop him off.
The workers are all trained and people i trust to help raise him.

The downside is that admin wise they have been taken over by a large firm and prices have rise. 50% in 12 months. The cost is now 50% higher than my mortgage and we will have to move him following the latest price rise. We are genuinely devastated but not every childcare provider is plonking your kids infront of a tv 8 hours a day and feeding them Cheetos for lunch.
