My nephew graduates from high school this month. Enrolling at University of Florida.

I’d like to buy him a graduation gift that he will keep for life. I suggested a nice watch. Maybe a TAG or even a Breitling. Wife says no - kids don’t wear watches. She says get him an iPad or headphones.

Mom says don’t get him a watch because she already gave him a Gshock.

His dad died when he was 13, so I am the only adult male in his life. Great kid - top of his class, swim team, all state band, finance major, speaks three languages, never been in trouble, won’t clean his room (takes after Mom on that part).

Any thoughts?

I'd get him the watch.

He doesn't have to wear it everyday, he has the Gshock for that. But he can wear it for nice occasions.

Get him a box of condoms and a one year subscription to the jelly of the month club.

Three replies and not one mention of hookers and blow?

The OT is slipping.

Nice watch with his initials engraved on it and maybe his graduation date.

Or gold from Rosland Capital.

Definitely a watch with engraved initials on the back. My son loves his and only wears it on special occasions.

Firearm for sure. Don’t think my kids have ever worn anything other than bracelets of various kinds and FitBits. Although my oldest did choose a pocket watch instead of a graduation ring.

Kids don't care about nice watches and he's not ready for that type of gift.. Take him on a long weekend to Vegas if he's 18.

As a guy, dont ask women what to get another guy you care about. He will appreciate what the main dude in his life got him, one dude to another.

University of Florida? Then get him some jorts so he'll fit in.

Put whatever money you were going to spend on a watch in an index fund in his name. He can use the money for a down payment on a house when he gets out of school.

The gift that keeps on giving

If jorts are not a consideration, then a nice pen or a pen and pencil set would be appropriate. Not cost prohibitive, he can use it at school, and it would be a nice thing that no college student would actually buy for himself.

Don’t get him a Tag. The polish wore off that turd fifteen years ago.

I’d also suggest a Kurono Tokyo. The Japanese have surpassed the Swiss in finishes and movements. They always won the arms battle when it came to dials. It is pretty unlikely that he will run across someone else with a Kurono.

I also like German watches better than most Swiss Brands though they all use Swiss movements. I can highly recommend Circula. The price is right on those as well but if you’re spending a pretty good amount, there are some great brands. Dornbluth and Sohne for example, beautiful watches and it isn’t just another Rolex.

Nice pocket knife. Can also get it engraved if you choose to.
