But to spend a week in Italy, Greece, Ireland et al, and then come home and see the people we deal with on a daily basis is so disheartening.

Japan is on our list as a country to visit soon and I am looking forward to the cleanliness, order, and efficiency it is known for.

You'll be blown away with what you experience in Japan. But you'll also experience that same disheartening feeling - for me it's more like embarrassment - when you return from Japan.

I live in OK, there are tons of fats and knuckledraggers here. The first time I returned home from a week in Japan I drove from the airport directly to a bar / club to meet some friends. The drive there was bad enough - trash along the highway, people driving like idiots. But walking into the bar was like reverse cultural shock. It just cemented the thought that we could learn a lot from the Japanese.

This is the feeling I have getting off the plane at MSY.

Nothing says welcome home like a fat black TSA agent with 2 inch fingernails. But hey, there's no Jazz Fest in Japan!!
