I don't understand why we went from the first tier of candidates directly to Pope but after seeing his offense I'm willing to give it a chance. Could be fun.

Plus I can start photoshoping Pope Hats on everything now.

Not sure why you didn't make a real push for Oats. Pearl may or may not have left, and I don't think he makes sense for you. If he was 15 years younger, for sure (and also makes it more likely he'd leave).

Also surprised there wasn't any serious push for Golden.

All that said, I think Pope will be fine.

That's a good question for Barnhart. Did they talk to Donovan and he gave a blanket no? Because if he said you have to wait, we should have waited. I mean, Pope would be there next week. I guess I would like to know that.

Is there a chance that Barnhart panicked and didn't want Kentucky to be told no by multiple coaches?

Not sure, but if Donovan didn't blanket say no, could have waited a few days. Portal is open till May, so still time to get him here and recruit. I would hope he said a hard no to move on, but he clearly could have waited a few days to offer Pope.

I wouldn’t say he panicked, but I’m sure that was part of it. You swing for the fences twice and miss, not that big of a story. You get told “no” three times and now you’re on to 4th on the list, that’s a “story.”

OR they'd have been fine with a 71 yr old rerun HC?

Yes. I'd have been happy with pitino. I'm not the only one I'm sure

Pope may be fine. Can't be much worse than cal the past few years so I'm good with it
