I can tell you playing college sports that you're a product of whatever is happening at that time. Losing culture spreads and players just start to not care as much. I was part of a losing program that turned into a better one. Coaches can only do so much. The players have to be the ones to change their mindset. Recruiting definitely matters too. If there is no talent, then none of the other stuff matters at all.

Where did you play and position, if you don’t mind sharing? I’m always intrigued we have college athletes on the forums!

AUNYC played collegiate basketball I believe
