As long as they don’t start blowing themselves up or beheading people or screaming “ Dirka! Dirka! Mohammed Jihad!”, I’m OK with it.
The constant urge to walk around with an explosive vest on and blow themselves up is a bit disconcerting but if they can resist that urge, I think we’re OK.

I can't believe Spring practice starts next week!

I'm curious to see if DeBoer will let media attend any portion of practices, whether any info leaks from practices (Saban had things pretty buttoned up towards the end), and how tight-lipped DeBoer is in pre/post-practice pressers.

I don't think we'll hear much about this and that.

Interesting stuff. I wonder if DeBoer plans to run the ball more than he did at Washington? They had an effective run game design but it was mostly used to keep teams honest and setup explosive passing.
He reiterated that he builds the offense around the roster and the current roster has the capacity to be an elite rushing offense with 3 or more great tailbacks and a QB who is often the fastest player on the football field in the open field. I suspect the OL will end up losing some weight but it is unlikely they become a quick pass-pro focused unit in one off-season. Everything on the current roster points towards being a run-heavy offense with play action passing.

Good point. I'm not a connoisseur by any means, and that's an understatement (to put it mildly), but my guess would be yes:
1. If it's true that KDB's system is about making use of the strength of the position groups, then we have a running back room that appears to be loaded with talent. There's talent among the receivers as well, but they may need some time to develop and we don't know who will be elite (Williams will be, but when). Hopefully, one of the running backs is ready to be the next great Bama RB right out of the gate.
2. Also, I have no idea how complicated KDB's offensive system is to learn. Perhaps the run game is easier and quicker to learn and implement. Combined with the strength of the RBs that might be a reason to favor a run-heavy offense (at least for most or all of KDB's first year).
3. It is no secret that our O-line needs work. That's another understatement. The new O-line coach sounds like a hard-nosed old school type of guy so I'm cautiously optimistic. Also here, it may be easier for those players to get coached up and it may be more simple for the new O-line to learn and master a run-blocking scheme first than a pass-blocking scheme.
(I would make them watch youtube vids all day of the great Dallas O-lines of the nineties: Allen, Williams, Newton, Tuinei, Stepnoski, Gesek, Gogan)
4. Finally, who will be the quarterback? Will it be Milroe and will he be able to take it to the next level as a passer? Or will he max out as the Alabama version of Jalen Hurts and 'force' KDB to rely on the run early on?

Getting the Washington center will be a big asset when installing the offense. He will help the O line with what they are doing.

quote:booker will need to drop weight. Deboer is going to have these guys pulling all over the place. Roberts is prototypical for what deboer needs at guard. I do think the interior oline is going to be incredible. I think Pritchett fits the bill physically for LT if he can be coached better than he has been, and then lots of promising young guys could fill the RT. The scheme itself is going to help them tremendously as well. Whichever QB shows they can get the ball out quick to the right read is who's gonna start, period. DeBoer's offense is built around that so it's gonna be non negotiable. Ol is not going to be in the bad positions they were to start last season with milroe holding the ball forever then bailing out of the pocket right into sacks over and over.

Washington RB was #1 in TD’s and #3 in rushing YPG. Bama RB’s should end up doing fairly well.
Unpopular opinion, I bet we see Austin Mack more sooner than later. Just a feeling…

I’m thinking the same thing. Second string if not first at some point.

It'll be interesting to see how quickly the existing QBs pick up the new offense in the Spring and what kind of rapport Mack can develop with the current WR room.

quote:Mack has a leg up in learning the system and already being a quick read passer in high school. Milroe is many things, lots of them good, but so far a quick read making passer has not been one of them. I'll say it again, whichever QB can make the right reads and throw accurately on time is going to be the QB, wont matter how many games he's started

Yep. It's pretty amazing how many people are just penciling Milroe in as the starter. He may be, but if I were betting on it being Milroe, or the field, I'd probably pick the field.

This is a Blake Sims/Coker moment, imo. Hard to imagine that Milroe hasn't won the team and I think it is likely that that is enough to win the job.
