Based on total wins alone, this is the 6th best season in Gamecock basketball history
starting to get into rare air -

more than the W/L totals - I can't recall a season where Carolina held the lead with clock time as much as this team - ALA & AUB games the only two where USC didn't play with the lead for close to or over 30 minutes/game at any point -

were it not for the double-digit 2H leads that have slipped away in 3 of the 5 total losses - this season would be pushing McGuire's 1969-70 nationally ranked #3 team that went 14-0 in the ACC and played with an injured Roche in the CG v NCSU - and yes Bobby Cremins was absolutely fouled on a non-call at mid-court which led to the game winning bucket for NCSU in double OT -

hold your nose through some of this recap - as it's from the wolfpack perspective - but it gives a pretty vivid account of March 7 1970 -

I respect the recap, and its nice to see stuff like this put out. Tough loss for the boys and its purely because our best player wasnt 100%...something that has plagued Gamecock basketball in their best moments *cough Sindarius * . Ive heard of the magic of the 70 season so many times.

I was talking to dad the other day and told him that the golden part of the mcguire years seems like it was a long thing by the way he talks about it...but really only was a 3 or 4 year golden run. Puts into perspective how good Dawn has been to have a solid 10 year golden run.

I do wish more of y'all would write about the Mcguire years. If you all don't then those memories die with you all. I also wish we had more footage of those games. What I would do to sit down with dad and watch a 1969-70' game with him.
