re: NON-TROLL Question: Is the Vol offense a "gimmick" offense?

Our starting offensive line last season was a 5 star left tackle, low 4 star LG, high 4 star C, high 4 star RG, and low 4 star RT. Our 6th man was a 3 star (RIP#77) who was virtually a mid game platoon
We were talented enough to run any offensive blocking scheme at OL with high execution (inside zone, outside zone, counter-power, screen game).
That isn't common. And we did it with 1 five star.

The reason why Georgia blew out Tennessee is because of reason #3. Georgia was able to win with its defensive line. Georgia was able to consistently get pressure with 3 and 4 man fronts without the need to bring safety and linebacker blitz. Because of this, Georgia didn't have to respect the run and was able to double cover Tennessee's recievers. This effectively kills their offense because they are forced to make multiple underneath contested throws with zero run support.
Getting consistent pressure with 3 or 4 guys is going to kill any offense.

Except we ran the same nickel blitz 5 times in a row and hit home 5 times in a row.
We could do whatever we wanted against Tennessee.
Maybe it is lucky that your OC is gone because he looked lost.

Don't they have an insanely high run between the tackles percentage?
Seems like they're exploiting space and matchups to take either deep shots, easy completions, or advantageous run game situations.
UT just spaces the WRs out a bit differently it's no more a gimmick then any other spread offense.
Not everyone has 750 5 star lineman to run that UGA is doing.
I don't know why all these Bama fans are worrying about the quick snap maybe get a non moron DC that can line them up on time

We ran the HUNH spread. And we did just get rid of our moron DC. It was all on the World Wide Web.

Meaningless wordplay. It's an offense. Ask those Bama DBs who wound up on the ground watching Hyatt score if it's a gimmick.

Too wide open. Those TD’s don’t count.

We were nickel blitzing a 3 star DB over and over.
When our #1 draft pick was out for the season the week before, Chaz Chambliss (3 star) stepped up with 4 tackles (1 for a loss).
We have loads of talent. But we coach the hell out of the entire team. Next man up.

Not a gimmick. They use talent well and get the ball to the playmakers. It may not work in the NFL but it is perfect for college and what they can recruit.
Curious if anything will change based on the qb position. Feel like they will be a little more conservative at least to start the season.

See South Carolina vs UT last year and what your QB being off looks like
To be fair the Vol offense wasn't that bad against SC last year. Put up 38 points with 507 total yards. Hooker was 25-42 for 247 yards and 3 TDs before injury. The lost that game because of their defensive ineptitude. Nothing else. Honestly it felt like their offense could score on every possession. It just happened to be our night that night.

Why is the first page full of bama fans whining about offensive speed then. Makes you sound scared

Last year Tennessee ran the ball 539 times and threw the ball 421 times.
Most people act like it’s just a throwing off fence which it is not.
Why they call it a gimmick offenses because they try to do it fast.
And it worked great for Tennessee because our talent level is under man compared to a lot of teams.
Oh, but now he’s recruiting at a high-level. It’s going to make it a lot tougher on these other teams.

Interesting...Tennessee's offensive line last season was:
3-Star LT, 3-Star LG, 4-Star C, 3-Star RG, 5-Star RT
It was mentioned earlier how Georgia could bring in 2 Tight ends...Georgia's were 4-Star Bowers, 4-Star Washington...Tennessee had 3-star Fant as their TE option, and not much behind him (3-star Warren).

You did it with:
1 5-star
6 4-star (including 2-TE option)
Tennessee ran their offense with:
1 5-star
1 4-star
4 3-star (including single TE formation)
There is definitely a talent gap...and it gets bigger when you go to the 2-deep.

Of course there is a talent gap. And it is even bigger this season.
The point is that our OL in 2022 was able to run any scheme. The only thing we didn't try was Mike Leach's super wide splits.
Will we be as multiple in 2023? Who knows.
We trade a 5 star LT for a 5 star RT.
We trade a low 4 star RT (3 year starter) for a high 4 star LT (rsfr).
We return LG, C, and RG.

That's correct. But Tennessee's offensive scheme and athletes aren't built to play that type of game. The scheme Tenn plays was masking their lack of elite physicality at the line of scrimmage, Georgia had the athletes to expose that.

This is the best explanation. It doesn't work against elite defensive lines. That is why TN will fall short against top tier teams and never win a NC with this offense.

VOLS won the West last year with this offense
