There's a 'mockumentary' genre of series where going in, the premise is to analyse, discuss, and/or teach something, but partway through it gets derailed and ends up almost never actually being about the initial topic (or episode title) at all.

The Rehearsal (Nathan Fielder), How To with John Wilson, and Jon Glaser Loves Gear are examples.

This board is essentially that comedic style incarnate, IMO.
