Would be a really solid pivot by Bruce after Achor if so

We've scheduled another pf to visit this week. Jaheim Hudson from SMU. He was a backup there last year after transferring from GA ST. It could just be a backup plan but the timing makes me think we may have missed on Mitchell.

Hudson is a super “meh” pickup if so.

Saw that. Hopefully just doing due diligence in case they miss on Mitchell. We’d definitely be settling for Hudson and would be seeing a good bit of Chaney and Broome at the 4. Which creates a need for another 5 IMO.

Yeah, sounds like a fallback option. I trust Bruce and still think Chaney can get it done as starter but would feel so much more confident in the 4 with a guy like Mitchell.

Hudson didn't average as many points as Mitchell but his defense # blocks and steals average probably surpassed Mitchell's just at a glace/face value. Bruce loves guys that can do both but defense is his first love.

The more concerning thing is that he wasn't getting much PT at SMU. Now I haven't studied their roster last year and maybe their best player was their 4 and they aren't necessarily a bad basketball school.. they are usually stocked with high major talent at least among their starters. But we are certainly a higher standard.

But Bruce has built championship teams by doing more with less. We know the formula at Auburn has generally been a couple highly touted guys surrounded by a bunch of guys that buy-in. If he thinks Chaney/Hudson/splice of Broome at the 4 can get it done I trust him but I'd like to be a little more sure handed on paper.

The 4 is a let down. No doubt about it.

I thought Chaney payed really good the back half of the season. I don’t get the hate. Is he not athletic enough? What makes y’all think he is easily upgraded?

You’re not wrong about the assessment of his second half but he’s definitely not a sure thing. Could be overexposed as a starter.

He is more athletic than Jaylin but his game was very raw. Sure I expect him to get better but how much is tbd.

It would be nice to have a 4 that can come in and start but imo all we really need are insurance policies. We have a solid 8 man rotation right now.

Hoke just out out a basketball update. Here are the bullet points.

- Mitchell and Hudson are both weighing options and could still take visits, but Hoke would not be surprised to see either commit.

- Sounds like chances of Dior to Auburn happening are dwindling. From his wording it sounds like Auburn wants to make it happen but not sure the SEC will approve. But that’s just my inference.

- Auburn coaches zoomed with Miles Kelly from GT. He entered the draft while maintaining eligibility and also entered the portal. He’s G/W combo so it makes me wonder if he would get some minutes at the 2 and Tahaad and/or Denver might get some run as the backup PG.

Just my opinion, but with a little shorter rotation Denver should get more shots up. He was quite the scorer considering how minutes were divided.

I think 8-9 guys rotating may be more realistic as far as guys seeing enough possessions to shoot their open shots.

Denver is legit.

If Pegues and Pettiford can produce, the backcourt is setup to score more.
