He apparently decided to quit the team and was not dismissed according to school officials.

USC coach Steve Spurrier confirmed during a press conference in Shreveport that Roland was no longer with the team.

“Shaq Roland is not with the team anymore,” Spurrier said at his first press conference in Shreveport. “He elected to drop out of school and maybe go pro. That was his choice and we wish him the best.”
Roland caught 26 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns this season.
