LSU fan here bringing my thirteen year old son to the game on Saturday. Looking for ideas on what to do on Friday evening and on game day around campus. We have never been before and have no clue on what to do.

I will add, Vanderbilt is his dream school for some reason. For the last five years I have been hearing how he is going there and playing football for them.

I'm probably not the best to answer, but with a 13 year old in tow, you should definitely check out Centennial Park and the Parthenon, just across West End from the stadium.

Unfortunately, tailgating for Vanderbilt games is a rather decentralized and lackluster affair. I'm not sure what to suggest for someone who does not know anyone else going to the game. As for the night before, downtown Nashville offers a plethora of options depending on what you want to do, especially with a young teenager. The typical view of Nashville comes from places like Rippy's and Tootsie's which are on Broadway running from 4th Avenue down towards 1st Avenue and the Cumberland River. Others are probably better equipped to suggest local places, but if you don't mind being in a mixture of bar, live music menu, and barbecue joint, I'm a big fan of Rippy's. Of course, the Nashville Predators (NHL team) are playing at 5 CT on Friday night, so downtown parking will be expensive. Your best bet if you want to go to the hockey game or just experience Broadway is to park across the Cumberland River at Nissan Stadium's Lot R (free) and walk across the pedestrian bridge. The walk across the bridge will give you a great view of downtown. It is about 15 minutes across the bridge to Bridgestone or Rippy's.

The furthest area to the left (shaded in blue) is always where where we tailgate.

As others mentioned, Friday night I'd go downtown (lower Broadway) and try and check out the Preds-Winnipeg Jets game. Nashville really gets behind and supports the Preds, so the atmosphere will be superb. Also, if you and your son haven't been to a NHL game before, you're in for a treat. It is arguably the best sport to watch live.

Saturday, Hillsboro Village/21st Ave is extremely close to the campus and stadium (definitely walking distance). There's a nice strip of restaurants and bars for y'all to check out (Pancake Pantry, McDougals, Double Dogs, Jackson's, Kay Bob's).

For tailgating, we always head to the grassy area and parking lots by the intersection of 31st Ave S and Natchez Trace (referenced in my post above). That's the best tailgating scene I've witnessed. You can head a few hundred yards closer to the stadium along the "star walk" and catch the band play and other pre-game festivities .

Centennial Park and The Parthenon is directly across West End on the other side of the stadium. That's definitely worth a look as well. Enjoy and Geaux Tigers and Anchor Down!

IF there is ONE thing, I'm good for it is my understanding of gaming the system with the Preds. Also, BIG MONEY SAVING OPPORTUNITY WITH THE PREDATORS!!!

Download the NHL app on your phone. Use the dropdown box to select the Predators as your team. Then scroll down on the Preds' page to "Twice Daily Preds Pass" under the "Managing My Experience" header. Enter the information they ask for (name, email, and phone number). Then, at 10AM CT on the day of any game you want to go to but haven't gotten tickets for yet, RUSH to the app (like, seriously, be sitting there when it flips to 10:00 from 9:59 then click into the app) and go back to that same spot. You can get 2 tickets for $15 each in the upper bowl if you are lucky. Some games will even have other options like lower bowl for $40 or $50 each.

Thanks for all the advice. We are driving in from my uncle's house in Atlanta tomorrow. NHL game does sound fun. Supposedly we are staying in a hotel right off campus, at least thats what the wife says
